App for Android phones and/or Kindle Fire

I'd love to see an Accordance app for Android phones, like the one for IOS devices. And the recent announcement of Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet, with an Android-derived OS, which I have ordered, makes me want to see an app for that as well.

I'd like to second this request. Now that Android devices have passed iOS in market share, it seems a wise move.

I currently only have the Scholar's Collection, which I've loved ever since seminary, but before I start buying commentaries and other resources, I'm seriously considering Logos--it was an inconvenience having to bring my Mac into my Church for study (we're windows-only there), but now that my Mac laptop has been mostly replaced by an android tablet, that may be the deciding factor.

Logos now supports PC as well as Mac (something I know a lot of people have wanted from Accordance for a long time!), and Android alongside iOS as well. It's a true pity that the Accordance team never had the foresight to hire some windows developers and extend this quality software to the non-mac world--and now the exclusion of Android seems similarly foolish. I bought a Mac for the purpose of getting Accordance, but I'm not going to buy an iPad for the same reason.

I know they're a whole different operating system, but porting software is not the same as re-developing it from scratch. For the sake of your business and pastors and scholars as well, please expand your reach!!

I think it is harder to code multi-platform than people think it is when you are talking about complex coding.

I have Logos as well and it does not perform well on the Mac.

It does do ok as an e-reader on my iPhone and iPad as long as I am connected to Wifi or 3g, but few resources actually function well from the device itself.

That said: I do think it is easier to code for the Mobile devices Operating systems than it is for the Platform Operating Systems.

I know we all want these programs to work on all our devices and, if we could ever get some type on universal tagging and coding for our resources, perhaps that would not only make cross platform coding easier, but would also assure that our investments in resources is not wasted if some company breaks up, get's sold or otherwise goes away.

3/4 of the resources I own digitally I have now purchased ( at great expense) at least three times due to software companies falling apart.

If Accordance does decide to offer an Android App, I would pray they did so with the Dignity, Quality and Consistency and Support they have in the Apple World.

The iOS app is great, but it has a lot of room to grow still. I would rather not see development resources devoted to other mobile platforms until the iOS app reaches greater maturity. While I know that isn't the popular opinion among people who use Android or Windows Phone, Oak Tree is a Mac company, and you should expect that Apple platforms will take priority.

People have said this about developing a Windows app, too. It's not really as persuasive as it appears on the surface. When you expand platforms like that, you might expand customer base, but you might also expand support expenses more than you expect. More platforms/more customers is not always a good thing for a software company.

Any news on this front? I use Accordance on my iPhone, however a large cheap android tablet would make a good supplement to have around the house.

I saw in another thread there is work bringing Accordance up to the latest OS/X frameworks, which is a huge task. I would suggest it is a large probability that any work on Android would not begin until after that.

Android work is underway already, though we cannot give a timeframe yet. We do have more than one development team ;)

I await the big day - given I am an mac person for computers and an android person for tablets and smart phones. I have just purchased my first modules of accordance for Greek studies and it is by far better than the others I have seen. I don't want to be forced to buy an iPad mini just to use accordance.

Hopefully you do not have too long a wait...although i dare say spring is probably the earliest you would see it (this is just an educated guess, any sooner I would assume a call for beta testers would have gone out by now), perhaps even longer off.... I have only used android a bit, peoples phones a tablet here or there... I have not been impressed personally but I know it has it's fans.

How would we find out about a beta testing program should they come to that stage in the process?

It is like anything I suppose if you don't use it very often you find it hard to get around. I have done development on ios and android and I find java to be the more flexible language to code in.

I know this has been in the works for years. It'd be nice to have some kind of hint at when it might be out. This year? Three years from now? ;) I'm hoping to switch from iOS to Android when it is released!

When I suggested it all most had to be out by years end, Helen chimed in to say there is no firm timeline... and did not want to even say by years end is possible. I still think it is well within the realm but I am an optimist (with no programming experience or inside knowledge)... Listen to Helen who knows what she is talking about but there is no firm date of any kind.

Dan, we are not yet at the point where we can project any release date, not even end of the year. Sorry, but we don't want to promote vaporware.

I am super excited about this as I use Mac for my computer and Android for my phone/tablet needs (largely because of financial constraints). I eagerly await the day that I can pull up Accordance instead of my other Bible software on my phone or tablet when I am in the grocery store or something :)

I have been a long time Accordance owner on Macs. I have also used Accordance on an iPhone. I recently was given a Kindle Fire for Father's Day and want a good Bible app or two on it. Of course if I could use Accordance on it, that would be great, but I can't. Maybe someone can advise me.

You know how with Accordance for iOS when you hold on a word using the ESVi a little box opens with info about the original language? Is there an app for the Fire that does a similar thing? I've tried Wordsearch Bible, Olive Tree, Logos, Gateway, and more to no avail. Is it because I have purchased modules for Accordance that give this capability, and I am using free versions of the rest?

I know you can do that on Olivetree if you buy a strongs tagged bible or the NIVGKE

If you do not mind the KJV I think Online Bible  has it for free... i have seen their iOS version but know there is a Android version out there too... Maybe you will have your accordance on it sooner than later... I wish I could tell you it was only weeks away.. but accordance staff said no announcement will be made before they are BETA ready.....  http://www.onlinebibleapp.com

EDIT: Going to my iPad and trying OLB, you have to have the S# turned on meaning you have clickable numbers after each word... I know less than ideal but it is free...

Thank you Dan. As much as I would like to have an app that does what I want on the Fire, I think I will wait for Accordance. In the meantime, if I want to be checking words in the text I will use the MacBook or iPhone versions of Accordance.
