Dr. Nathan Parker
Thanks! I'll see if I can reproduce it, but it could be another "random crash".
Accordance Enthusiast
Yes, it is probably a random crash somehow.
Dr. Nathan Parker
I'm logging some of the random crashes on here (if you find any other threads mentioning them, let me know). Now that Sonoma is getting better, we have an opportunity to review them.
Accordance Enthusiast
I had another seemingly random crash today, I was simply closing some of the open workspaces: 2023-10-09 09:33:14 Accordance has encountered an unhandled exception. Dr. Nathan Parker
I'm pinning this thread and linking to the other random crashes above. robrecht
Mike Garrity from Accordance also asked me to send him my Jewish scriptures workspace (MT LXX DSS Targums Peshitta in linked scrolling tab ties) from this thread. He has gotten it to crash sometimes (not consistently) on a Windows machine but not a Mac.
Dr. Nathan Parker
Our programming team is looking into the "random crashes". We may have some progress on them coming up. Continue to stay turned.

Dr. Nathan Parker
Thanks for that! I think you're a beta user, so give the beta forums a check. :-)

Have you abandoned the idea that the problem might be that the Windows version of Accordance is still 32 Bit, and that upgrading it to 64 Bit would be a massive undertaking and take a while? Or is that still a working hypothesis?
Dr. Nathan Parker
We've done some digging, and it seems the cause of the "random crashes" are not related to the app being 32 Bit, but to some other causes that can be more easily resolved with a minor update. So short-term, it seems we're going to be able to be able to resolve a lot of "random crashes" quickly with a few minor adjustments. With that said, moving the Windows app to 64 Bit is still on my list of something I'd like to see once we could devote some time to work on it. That would take a while, but it still would be a good long-term benefit.
jcornuz
Do a "no new features / bugfix / 64bit porting / optimization" release? This is generally super beneficial for the software in the long term and if communicated well, it can get good user traction. Mind you, even Apple did that for Snow Leopard at the time... 2

Dr. Nathan Parker
We posted some notes about it in the beta forums. Are you a beta tester? 14.0.9 is going to hopefully address many of these.
robrecht
Nope, not a beta tester.

robrecht
Please, no. It's taken me this long to get you guys to realize that some of these problems are real and not just corrupted workspaces or downloading the program with the wrong browser, etc. I can't imagine doing that on every new beta that comes along. Dr. Nathan Parker
Sounds good. Any b5 crashes you get, please report them in the Windows Beta group. I can show them to our programmers to see if there are any additional adjustments we need to make before we release 14.0.9.
