User Tool Import Failure

Brent Lawrence

Recommended Posts

I'm getting the error message below when importing into a current User Tool. No files or folders have been moved. Upon clicking OK, the addition to the User Tool fails to import.

1. I save a Word Doc as a web page or html.

2. In Accordance, I then choose to Import HTML into a User Tool.

3. I navigate to where I saved the file.

4. Accordance warns that it will add it to the end of the current tool.

5. The message pops us and then my additional information fails to import.

I had a similar issue with validating the program. You might try going to the Accordance folder in the Application Support folder (Library>Application Support>Accordance; this might be root level or the Library within your user level, which may be hidden) and cmd I to get information. Make sure sharing and permissions are set to read and write. Use the "gear" menu to apply to all enclosed folders.

Reply if this is not clear, but my guess is that it will fix the problem given the verbiage of the error message.

Thanks Michael. Unfortunately that did not change anything. It seemed to work OK under 10.0.0 but the update to 10.0.1 seemed to bring this error on.

Sorry it did not work (you did apply the permissions to all contained folders, right?). Tech support will need to help.

Brent,

I am very sorry that it has taken so long to respond!!

I remember you reporting an import error (in the beta forum)

"The text of (null) will be added to the end of Brent's Sermons. Do you want to go ahead and merge these texts now?"

I think this is a result of a flle name length limitation of version 10 (and 9.x). Accordance does not properly handle importing files with more than 32 characters (including extension(html)) for User Tools. Accordance needs to do a better job of handling this limitation.

I was able to reproduce this error and the eventual corruption of the User Tool settings file.

I recommend:

  1. Quit Accordance.
  2. Remove the "User Tools" setting file located in the user preference folder (<user>/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences/)
  3. Rerun Accordance
  4. Add your previous User Tools modules to your Library. Help files: Getting Started with Accordance > Using the Library > Add Items to the Library
  5. For now try to import files with less than 32 characters in their name.

Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience and we will address this issue in a future Accordance revision.

Mike

Thanks Mike. No worries on the late reply. Yes, I was having that trouble early on. I'm sure there are more important bugs to be dealing with right now than my User Tool issues.

Thank you for outlining the solution. I have been having some success with importing, but I think the file names have all been shorter and the ones that created the headache were all longer.

I do occasionally run into the pressing update does not actually update the Tool as it appears it should, but restarting my Mac took care of that immediately. Thanks again for the help.
