Enoch
As it now is, whenever one highlights only part of a verse & at the same time accidentally highlights the space immediately to the right of the verse reference (between the verse ref & the text), you get this refusal to hi-light by the system & a pop-up which tells you that you cannot both highlight a verse reference number & (part of) the text. But one never highlit the verse ref to begin with. And what is the purpose of this error message? If someone highlights the first half of a verse & happens to clip the verse ref also, why doesn't the system just highlight the first half of the verse & ignore the fact that the verse ref was clipped? Countless times I have gotten that popup time waster. Please change this obstacle. Thanks for your consideration.
David Lang
Enoch, if you select a verse reference and choose a highlight style, the entire verse will be highlighted in every text (it's called verse highlighting). If you select and highlight some of the words in a verse, you're doing word highlighting which is translation specific. The error message is there because when you select both the reference and some words, Accordance is unsure which kind of highlighting you're wanting to do. Perhaps we should just assume word highlighting, and we can certainly discuss that. In the meantime, you can avoid ever selecting the verse reference by double-clicking the first word in a verse and then dragging to select additional words. Hope this helps. Joe Weaks
I would think a good solution would be that if the portion of the verse ref that is highlighted is only whitespace, then it should assume Word highlighting. And vice versa.
Enoch
The problem is not that a verse and a word were both highlighted. No verse was highlighted. But a bit of blank space to the left of the word was highlighted, blank space between the word & the verse number. Why does that have to trigger this annoyance? It can be tricky to get the mouse to highlight exactly. The best solution to this problem is to fix the Accordance program.
