Zondervan and Accordance

This last week I was told by a "higher up" at That Other Bible Software Company that they had secured an exclusive license with Zondervan for the future with Zondervan books and no other Bible software on either platform would have access to the Zondervan library for their software. I know that Accordance has had Zondervan material even before (logos) did but is this even remotely true? I don't want to call this guy a liar, but I have a hard time believing his story.

Yes, we have a longstanding and continuing relationship with Zondervan. They have assured us privately, and confirmed publicly, that they do not intend to replace Pradis with any particular engine, but to make their texts available to many software publishers. Here is their own News Release which does announce the arrangement with Logos, but makes it clear that it is non-exclusive.

On the Koinonia Blog Jesse confirmed in a comment:

Thanks for the feedback and excitement, everyone.

As the Accordance blog post mentions, Zondervan and Accordance have a great relationship. And we certainly plan for more titles. Hopefully we will be able to announce new products soon!

Thanks for the information. I am disappointed that this representative of Logos had to resort to deception to talk about and sell his product. I also got the "Accordance is dying and desperate" line from him too. It was also a shame that all these guys that had Macs were buying the other stuff... it's not that great.

I am happy to report that we are alive and well. Just try to get into our booth at ETS or SBL next week! We are packed out more and more each year, and we have some great new products to release.

I'm excited and am looking forward to what Accordance has ahead!

Jeremy,

Let me add my 2 cents to this. I am responsible for working with all our publishers for "rights and permissions". That is to say, my job is to negotiate the contracts for the content we publish. As has already been noted we have have had, continue to have, and will have in the future a long and fruitful relationship with Zondervan. As is already obvious, Zondervan has opened up their licensing policies and is now working with a number of other electronic publishers, but this is in no way to the exclusion of working with Accordance. We are presently in the process of working out contracts for new material that I think you will be very pleased with. While I hesitate to speak for Zondervan, I can speak directly to the fact that Zondervan has not entered into any exclusive arrangements that preclude working with Accordance. I know this because I spoke to them today about it. So, I would encourage you to look forward to some press releases on new project ventures between Zondervan and Accordance in the not too distant future.

Regards,

Hope there would be a great response in the SBL meeting.
