Link to article or entry

This must be a rookie question...but can I link to an entry, say a word in BDAG, to create a link in one of my user notes? The result would be a link I create that takes me directly to the word in a lexicon or an article I choose to link to. I can't find where to grab a link. Thanks for any help.

Hi @Gary Pauley. For your specific example of linking to a word in BDAG, you can use the Copy as Search URL command from the search bar's context menu to get the appropriate link. For example, to generate a link to the BDAG entry for σωτήρ, do the following:

  • Open BDAG.
  • If necessary, change the search bar mode to Greek Entry.
  • Enter σωτηρ in the search bar text field.
  • Right-click the search bar text field to bring up the context menu and select the Copy as Search URL command.

The clipboard should now contain the following link: https://accordance.bible/link/search/BDAG;Greek_Entry?σωτηρ

If you want to create arbitrary links to a specific location that aren't based on a search (e.g., because the search would result in multiple hits), you can use the Copy As > Location URL command from the context menu in a text or tool window. For example, repeating the same exercise above:

  • Open BDAG to the σωτήρ entry.
  • Right-click the entry heading text in the tool window (i.e., σωτήρ) to bring up the context menu and select the Copy As > Location URL command.

The clipboard should now contain the following link: https://accordance.bible/link/read/BDAG#20928

The drawback of the latter method is that it's based on the Accordance paragraph offset to the entry, and thus can change if the module is ever updated, possibly breaking previously generated links.

One more thing.... Since your OP states that your desire is to paste these links into user notes, you'll probably want to transform the external links Accordance generates to internal links. This can be done by simply replacing https://accordance.bible/link/ at the beginning of the external link with accord://. For example, https://accordance.bible/link/search/BDAG;Greek_Entry?σωτηρ becomes accord://search/BDAG;Greek_Entry?σωτηρ.

I don't think this is officially documented, but the following link also seems to work for the example I presented in my previous comment:

    https://accordance.bible/link/read/BDAG?σωτηρ

YMMV

It did indeed! Thanks for the info!!
