Andersen Forbes Syntax Searches

Dr. Nathan Parker

Recommended Posts

I have a handful of Andersen Forbes Syntax Searches I created back in Logos years ago. I'd like to re-create these in Accordance. I've attached the screenshot of the searches. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could convert some of these into Accordance searches?

Once I've taken some of them as a test drive, I'll be able to either produce a screencast on A-F or teach a webinar on it. These are some good real-world searches that would help us better understand A-F once they can be converted into Accordance.

Thanks!

I am attempting these samples, however the program repeatedly crashes. Using the construct menu for AF, whenever I attempt to choose certain syntax categories, it immediately crashes the program. The following AF syntax items crash the program when they are chosen -- Discourse, Sem-Role CiC, Non-Sem role CiC

I have also discovered that when you try to expand certain of the syntax categories, it also crashes the program. For me right now the AF database is essentially useless.

What version of Accordance, and what OS version? Can you post a screen recording of the steps causing the crashes?

I can confirm the same thing happened to me.  I am running Accordance 14.0.8 and Mac OS Sonoma on a MacBook Air M2 2022.  I was following along with Dr. Roy Brown here at time 31:43 when this happened.

I can confirm this one. Here's my crash report. I'll get this reported.

I found the issue and fixed it (introduced in 14.0.7) -- should be addressed in the next version of Accordance.

Just downloaded 14.08 - Andersen-Forbes continues to crash Accordance when choosing or expanding certain syntactical items, such as Discourse, Discourse Ready, semi-role CIC, non-semi role CIC and others

14.0.8 is the version I confirmed the issues in. It'll be resolved in 14.0.9.

After 14.0.9 is out and these can searches can be successfully brought into Accordance, let me know, and I'll get a webinar scheduled on it.

Now that 14.0.9 is out. I'd like to review how to get these into Accordance, then get a webinar scheduled this summer on it.

That would be very welcome Nathan

Just downloaded 14.09 - Andersen-Forbes continues to crash Accordance when choosing or expanding syntactical items, such as Discourse, Discourse Ready, semi-role CIC, non-semi role CIC and others. In fact it seems worse than before. It is frustrating to purchase a module over three years ago and still not be able to use it.

Thanks for the update. I'll test this on my Intel Mac and see what's going on.

Is this in the syntax graphs or in the construct search?

this is in the construct -- this works in my 2012 mac mini, using Catalina; but does not work in my 2019 MacBook pro using Sonoma??
