Books at a Glance

Dr. Nathan Parker

Recommended Posts

Is anyone on here a subscriber to “Books at a Glance”? I had it a while back during my PhD program, but I let it lapse.

I’m considering re-signing up so I can keep up with the latest book summaries in case there’s anything I should recommend we offer in Accordance format.

I do keep a Scribd subscription active in case I need to evaluate certain books to see what would be good to suggest to Accordance (plus I get a lot of personal benefit out of it, between it and my local library apps).

Thanks!

As no one has responded, i will stick my head above the parapet! (Thinking about 'the battle' by the strawbs.)

I am not sure where other forum users are in developing their accordance  library and i must admit that over the past decade i have found the forum to be incredibly useful as a source for finding out about publications that i wouldnt normally come across. Personally, i would really value to see some of the volumes that have been requested over the last couple of years and have had a lot of interest registered by other forum users make into the accordance store.

I do browse various publishers sites and see what is coming and what they currently have that looks interesting, but am loath to suggest some that look interesting as i am aware that the requested modules list already grows daily. Yes its useful to know whats out there and whats recently published but we also have a diverse group of users and accordance has finite resources and developing modules takes time.

My perspective, and i am happy to be proved wrong as i accept that requests dont only come through the forum, is that while we have had a number of new releases over the past few months (thanks), i have not been aware that they are ones that have been requested on the forum. In the past, when we have had a new release, quite often the various request threads have been updated with a release announcement.

Again speaking personally, there are a number of volumes that have already been repeatedly requested over the years from publishers accordance is already deal with and which i have already put my credit card on budget alert, so its ready and waiting, fully prepared for when its needed and the titles are made available.

Thanks for the feedback! On some of those forum threads over the years, if there’s any one that were highly active that I need to add to my list of module requests, feel free to tag me in them.

If you find any newly released modules from 2023 that were requested in the forums a while back, tag me on those as well, and I’ll make an announcement on it.

I’ve primarily focused on posts/interaction since January 2023, so I’ve likely overlooked some gold nuggets I could use some help from fellow miners to surface.

Jewish annotated apocrypha (is at the top of my list but i think it made it to your list) but there are a couple of others.

There was wright/goldingay. The publisher was contacted but it seems to have gone into a black hole from this thread and i believe there were a couple of separate threads as well

The other recurring theme is for updated volumes of existing sets such as tyndale and nicot and pillar and ivp dictionaries from memory (i probably spend an unhealthy amount of time on the forum) but i havent run a full search on those but just scanning there are about three nicot threads and a few tyndale ones

ANET, Jewish Apocrypha, and Tyndale Commentaries are on my list. Tyndale Commentaries we’re in the process of getting the license to the rest of them. Bible for Everyone is not on my list. I’ll add it.

The list I gave back in January had—obviously—some personal desiderata, but each resource on it had already received multiple requests by multiple persons:

Personally, I think it's important to strike a balance between works that make for easy reading for the non-specialist (my feeling is that there is mostly that as of late) and more specialized academic/resource works that students, teachers and, let's say, "theological/exegetical geeks" can sink their teeth into or use in their academic and or research projects. I realize it's more difficult to turn a profit with the latter but I would assume that these "geeks"—like me!—make up a substantial part of Accordance's audience.

I haven't bought much lately because I've pretty much found the academic works I'm looking for that are already available for sale, and there hasn't been a lot in the way of new resources that correspond to my interests or needs at this time.

Thanks! I think I got all of those on my list. We are working on a balance between academic and non-academic works. We’ve got some good stuff in the pipeline on both fronts.
