Products You Want Overview Screencasts On

Dr. Nathan Parker

Recommended Posts

To add to Sean’s other thread on products that need updated screenshots, I’m also going to gradually be working on short screencasts on certain products/modules. I’m going to try to start doing them on at least couple of sale items in future weeks (might be a few weeks before I can get into it), but I’d also like to get some feedback on which additional ones customers would like to see screencasts on.

Thanks!

With all due respect, until Accordance comes up with a stable platform to run the products on, then what is the point of producing screencasts touting "certain products/modules"? When your car is having engine problems, you take it to a mechanic to work on it, and after two months of him tinkering with it, do you want to hear, "Mr. Parker, are not these shiny, chrome rims pretty? Wouldn't you like to buy a set for your car? Perhaps you could suggest something else, if you are not really interested in them." Or would you rather hear, "Mr. Parker, we found the problem and now your car runs like it's brand new, even though we did notice that your ol' 72 Pinto Wagon is getting a bit dated"? In my opinion, I would rather hear the latter.

Nathan, my Accordance program is still not working as it should. And as I posted elsewhere, even the Accordance 13.4.2 version started acting like Ragan MacNeil this morning. I really could not care less about adding programs, and it angers me every time I see the appeals to find ways to draw in more customers to sell them something that will not fully work as advertised. Your whole focus ought to be on making sure the current product, Accordance 14, works without having to compromise or do this or that "work around" just to make it kinda-sorta work. Anything other than that is edging yourself et al following your lead into the areas of fraud and false advertising. Now, I have invested a few thousand dollars into my "car," the engine does not work, your mechanics have been tinkering with it for over two months. When can I drive it, again? Or do you want to refrain from answering the question and try to sell me some shiny new rims instead?

I’ve addressed your Accordance 13 issues in your thread concerning it. My recommendation in this case would be to reach out to Tech Support via phone. You may need to leave a voicemail and have them call you back, but then they can troubleshoot your issues live and ensure you have a fully functional version of Accordance after working with them. I would attempt to personally work with you to resolve your issues if I could, but since I’m not running Accordance 13 on my system at the moment, I personally wouldn’t be of much assistance to you. You need the experts.

Your share of issues with both Accordance 14 and now Accordance 13 is more than what the majority of users on the forums are experiencing, even the ones who are still experiencing some remaining bugs with Accordance 14. Trying to troubleshoot such issues via the forums is difficult, and you really need a live Tech Support rep. You’ll be in good hands with them.

While I know that you are experiencing your share of issues with Accordance 14 and now 13, the reality the majority of our users still on Accordance 13 have a solid experience, and even many of our users on Accordance 14 are using it daily without major issues. There are still some remaining issues in Accordance 14 we need to resolve, (we’ve even seen an occasional bug report come in with Accordance 13). Overall though, most of our users running Accordance 13 or 14 are using it for their daily Bible study without major, showstopping issues. It seems you are one exception to that, in which it’s time to call in the cavalry and have Tech Support work with you personally.

Since the majority of our users are using Accordance on a daily basis without major, showstopping issues (and the ones who are experiencing some issues have reported the issues to us, and our developers continue to collect the feedback and work to resolve the issues in future updates), we’re still offering regular, ongoing sales (so we can continue developing Bible software, software development isn’t free), and those of us who are not developers are fulfilling our daily duties by enhancing our product pages, product descriptions, videos about modules, increasing product training, etc.

Many of our customers are wanting to buy certain modules from us, but they’d like to learn a little more about the modules before purchasing. Some of the requests we’ve had in this area were to offer short, “product overview” videos of such modules showing them in action (in addition to revised screenshots). This thread is a place where customers can let us know what particular modules they want a “product overview” video demo about, and I can produce them. I’d prefer to prioritize any videos I produce based on customer feedback instead of randomly picking modules myself. Eventually, it’d be great to have an overview video on all our modules, but I want to start with the ones our customers would most benefit from.

Nathan, I would possibly consider a different approach, what about focussing on current sales?

Its a bit late for the carta understanding series! Im not aware of seeing anything on that.

also possibly new volumes that are introduced, especially those that havent had requests on the forum where we often get a bit of background. There are several series in the current sales i know nothing about and as i dont have access to specialised libraries. As an example, I wonder how the commentary sets compare to wbc and nicxx so what is their USP (but am unlikely to invest in but others might who are starting to build their libraries).
possibly a top level of some of the technical or graphical ones like andersen forbes?

I apologise if im sounding like a broken record but i probably would never have looked at nivac if it wasnt for dr j covering them in lighting the lamp. (I wouldnt want it as my principle commentary but i now wouldnt want to be without it.)

One thing I would like to say is that sometimes there is an odd combination of a computer and software. I had purchased a high end computer a number of years ago and there was one program that we could not get to run on it, even though it worked on all the other computers. The company tech support had even done a remote desktop with me and could not get to the bottom of it. When windows 10 was installed on it later, it worked fine. Another high end computer I got recently with Windows 11 would not run a couple of Epson Label Maker programs. A few months later, after a couple of Windows updates, they worked. Sometimes there a quirky combination of computer and program. I have Accordance 14 on several computers and do not really have any issues on any of them aside from the bugs they are working on, but they are really not an issue for me. I am confident that Accordance will resolve the bugs. I still prefer Accordance over L and BW.

Thanks, yes very familiar.

Just gives very random ratings and sort of category such as technical or pastoral but doesnt really give the usp. I find it very very useful to see whats available, provided they list it, i have found once you move away from commentaries, their listing is less complete.
But when i last looked, they dont publish how they arrive at a particular score and to me, the scoring seems pluck a number so ive found the site to be a bit limited. For example the pillar Commentary on John scores 100 so I bought it. Yes its ok but I wouldnt say its perfect so how did they calculate the score of 100?

Good first call to start investigation, but then look to other sites and i liked the way dr j dealt used to dig into the resource and show its strengths. .

The Lighting the Lamp videos are still very useful. It would be nice to have a link to them 'up front and center' on the videos section of the Support tab found on the Accordance home page. The links are there in the Vimeo and YouTube links, but Vimeo offers no index and appears to list the videos in order of recent additions first. At least YouTube playlists gives access to the Pointing the Lamp videos as a single group. I watched a few again this morning—they are still so useful!

I was thinking of starting with current sales and new module releases for sure. Love the idea. I was curious if in addition to those, if there were any other modules you wanted to see featured.
