Highlighting with Symbols only applies to the first word of selected text - Bug?

I'm just sure that I used to be able to highlight an entire phrase of selected text with a symbol, am I right?

 

When I select a phrase and apply a "symbol" highlight, it only applies the highlight to the first word. Also, when I search for the highlight symbol, only that first word is returned in the search results.

 

The "styles" highlights functions as expected—highlighting every word in the selected text.

 

 

This occurs on both MacOS and iOS.

That is my recollection as well, that the symbols would highlight every word. I just tried it and am getting the same result as you are that it is only highlighting the first word. I agree it must be a bug.

I'm fairly certain symbols were designed to highlight specific words and not phrases.
