Best cloud syncing

So I've been inactive with Accordance for a while (it's a long story). Having just now returned to pick it up again, I find that I have some user files (including stuff that syncs such as user notes) in Dropbox and some in iCloud (~/Documents). And in a few cases there are duplicates between the two. So notably my main user note file appears to be in both places, and both versions are identical in size down to the number of bytes, and identical created and modified date and time too. So presumably they are exact duplicates of each other?

I've no idea how this came about 🤦. But the question is what I do now.

Is either cloud service to be preferred over the other? I'm 100% mac and iOS, in case that affects the answer.

How do I configure Accordance on macOS and iOS for whichever I settle on?

And is there any way of merging / comparing the contents of similar or identical user files?

Hi,

If both copies of your user notes have the same name and are the same size, they probably are duplicates. If one says 'conflicted copy' then there are two separate versions that exist. This would happen by adding changes and not syncing them and then doing the same thing on another device.

Different people have different preferences for which cloud sync to use. You should figure out which one works best in your situation. We have been told by the programming team that running syncs from 2 different cloud services at the same time can have unwanted results including files disappearing at times. You will want to avoid that .

At this time we only officially support syncing with Dropbox. However, many people are syncing with iCloud and having success with it.

If you choose to use Dropbox, please use the built in Dropbox sync inside the Accordance app as opposed to the Dropbox app on your computer. Trying to sync Accordance with the Dropbox app outside of the Accordance interface has caused several people issues recently that are tough to correct. The sync with Dropbox feature built into Accordance is the way to go if you choose Dropbox.

You can 'merge' user notes from the user notes drop down menu from that icon in the tool bar. Just to be safe please make a backup of the files before merging them. This is usually seamless but sometimes things can go wrong. No problem if you have a recent backup.

Many thanks, Billy. At the moment I'm dealing with a bigger drama meaning I can't even get into Accordance to change anything. But I'm working with tech support on that one. When that's sorted I'll get back to this issue.

Yes Lance,

By all means please contact us at: techsupport@accordancebible.com if needed for any issue. It is usually much faster than on the forums.

Thanks.

Hi Billy,

I’m back to a functioning Accordance. (Corrupted preference files I think??). I did a fresh install, and the sync (Dropbox) seems to be doing fine now.

All good.
