book about Deuteronomy

Hi

Can anyone recommend a good volume on Deuteronomy - from a Jewish/historical/cultural perspective (not a Christian) one? Doesn't need to be in Accordance, in fact book is probably better... as example of what am looking for would be Mary Douglas volume on Numbers and Leviticus or the recent Jan Assmann volume on Exodus (the invention of religion - very good BTW)

Depends on budget but i would also consider torah, a modern commentary.

as jps isnt sold as separate volumes (but is an excellent set and worth it!) though i know you are happy with a hard copy. I just like accordance tagging. ;o)

thanks! I have the modern commentary... I know Accordance has the JPS volumes - I think I will buy Deuteronomy first as a book (I'm old and need a physical book first to properly read) and then get the JPS module next time it is on sale!

I haven't used the Deuteronomy one much, but JPS volumes are definitely ones worth owning in print.

The Commentator’s Bible is a collection of comments by Jewish Rabis so it might be worth considering.
