TYA
Is there a way to add to a Notes file without being at a specific verse? I'm not aware of any way to do this, and I'd like to be able to add to my Notes file anytime, and any place I want. For you more experienced users, please give me your feedback: what is the best way in Accordance to add notes / comments (ideally, including the ability to add pictures) on the fly. I'm not talking about highlights or the new pen feature. I'm referring to a "file" in Accordance (like my Notes file) that I can save, backup, transport, and assuredly retain forever. But I just don't want to have to look for the little "plus sign" in Accordance, meaning that Accordance is allowing me to add a note at that point. I want to be able to add without that limitation. What are your thoughts? Thank you.
SWC
Why not make a User Tool for that very purpose? https://www.accordancebible.com/resources/multimedia/details/?id=155882 Edited November 24, 2019 by Steve Carruth
TYA
Thanks Steve. That may be the way to go if I want complete freedom. But I suppose that I could just pile random things under Gen 1:1 also in my User Notes. We'll just have to see. I started watching the video link, and Dr. J. helps break down the distinctions between them. Thanks again! Mark Allison
User Notes always have to be associated with a location in a Text or Tool. There were originally designed to allow the creation of a running commmentary, then we expanded their ability to work with Tools as well. As Steve pointed out, User Tools don't need to be associated with a location in a Text or Tool. Edited November 24, 2019 by Mark Allison
wido27
Hi there, I see that note-taking ability of Accordance is on the wishlist for many years. "Notes" is a cool feature for studying the Bible and creating notes for each verse. I use it almost daily to study the Word for my own at home. However, I would love to have a note-taking feature which allows me to take notes in a sermon or during chapel. I know that there is the feature of "tools" which allows me to create whatever text and with all kindes of links to the Bible and commentaries. However, this only works on my computer, which I never bring to church. If at least, "tools" would be editable on iOS (phone and tablet) I would really appreciate! I am writing this with not too much hope, since, this feature is missing since over 7 years and is not yet available. Thanks anyway for considering.. ukfraser
Stacks is also quite useful for either starting or pulling together lots of random related or unrelated things. (Though not yet in ios, hint hint.) Edited November 24, 2019 by ukfraser
TYA
Stacks is also quite useful for either starting or pulling together lots of random related or unrelated things. I will say that I'm quite impressed and pleased with Stacks, though I've only used it once now when doing a study on the location of the Temple mount in Jerusalem. I still have that one single stack assembled from a year ago, and it has many beautiful images, screenshots, snippets from various texts in Accordance. I love the universal aspect of what can be put into it. I see good potential uses for this going forward. For me, one of the most important things in my ideal note-taking system is to have searchable "tags" that I can apply to my notes. I've done this for years, so that I search by a certain "tag" or "code," and it brings up all comments on that particular subject. One good things about User Notes is that a reference is automatically placed at the start of each note. But as has been mentioned here, the downside is that you can only create a note at certain locations. In other words User Notes seems to automatically provide some of the organization, or systemization, so to speak. User Tools, on the other hand, seems a bit "freer," but if you want to have organization, you have to create it yourself. Right now, my feelings are a little "hurt" over imported User Tools not being able to be edited (another issue from this thread), and so my confidence is lacking in that area. I've built notes for years, B"H, and therefore stability and flexibility are major issues for me. Thanks all for the feedback!
