Col. 1:1 mismatch in Comfort Text Commentary

I have the ESV open at Col. 1:1 but when opening Comfort in parallel it opens at Philippians 4:23b.

 

UPDATE: The same thing happens in the Omanson Text Guide, it opens at Php. 4.23

Neither Comfort nor Omanson have an entry for Col 1:1. My guess is as a result they are aligning to the previous verse entry for which they have an entry, which is Phil 4:23/b.

The same thing happens with Metzger. The problem is that these resources are defaulting to the immediately prior article when there is no commentary on the exact verse.

 

At the very least the default for a verse at the beginning of a book SHOULD be the beginning of that book (rather than the last article in the previous book). In this example these resources SHOULD default to the beginning of Colossians (either the title or the first verse reference).

I would have expected that they would go on to the next verse, not back to the previous one.

Also, it messes up the column alignment/syncing when I click between columns (e.g click on the Comfort module, scroll in it, and the ESV module jumps back to Phil. 4.23—even when scrolling down/forwards in Comfort.)

 

I was looking for textual evidence for the rendering in the Two Horizons commentary, "Timothy, my dear brother." Clearly, there is none.

I haven't seen that translation but the Greek contains no pronoun of any kind. That said, either my or our would be, and is commonly, assumed which is fine in the Greek. There is no adjective so apart from context I don't know where they got "dear". It makes sense of course but it is not in the text.

Well, Two Horizons claims to be a theological commentary, so maybe that gives them a little more leeway in their translation principles and practices.

You can just make it out at the top of the second column in my screenshot above. See also the rendering of "brothers and sisters" in Christ, which is also not in the text.

I think that the reason we jump to the previous verse is so that you can see immediately that there is no comment on the verse in question. If we went to the next verse you would always be scrolling back to check. It may look messy but there is method in our madness.
