Donald Cobb
Hi all, I've been trying to get a handle on this ressource and have looked at David Lang's blog posts, which are helpful. But there is something I'm stuck on. The example David Lang gives shows how to find the passages in which Hebrew tselem is translated by εἰκών. That's fine... if you know what you are looking for both in the Hebrew and the Greek. However, I'm trying to find the different Hebrew words which are reflected by the one Greek verb ἀναφέρω. In the BW version of the MT-LXX module, this is fairly straightforward : I put in the Greek word, and it spits out the different hebrew verbs that it translates from the MT. But I can't seem to get the Accordance version to do it. I seem to have to know what the corresponding Hebrew word is, search on that word in the MT, then merge the two texts. My problem is that, depending on the context, ἀναφέρω translates something like a half-dozen different verbs, that I can't get to show in the MT-LXX ressource. In other words, this ressource seems to work like this: tselem + εἰκών But not: ἀναφέρω + ? Could someone please tell me what I'm missing? Thanks! Joel Brown
DC, For this kind of a search, you can actually just directly get the results in your Analytics (if you own the MTLXX of course!), without using MERGE or the MT-LXX Parallel module itself. Just search for your word (ἀναφέρω), open the Analytics, hit Ctrl+T to customize its display, and drag in the MTLXX Lex or MTLXX Inflect items to your first column. That does bring up another question, though. Is there a way to connect those Hebrew verbs that are just listed with the number of occurrences with the specific passages in which they are found? Or would I then have to go back and do a merge search with the MT-LXX module on, say for example, qtr and ἀναφέρω? Thanks again for your help! Helen Brown
In the Analysis pane you can select and right-click on the Hebrew word and search for it in your choice of text, BUT it cannot limit the search to the places where it translates that specific Greek word. For that you do need to go back and use the MERGE in MT-LXX Parallel.
