drsdanderson
As I understand it, searching a Bible for .? <WITHIN 1 Words> [FIELD END] should find all the verses that end with a question mark, assuming that "Scope" is set to "Verse." I am attaching a screenshot of a search I did with the ESV. Most of the results are correct, but the results also include some verses that do not end with a question mark. Anomalous results in the search window include Gen 43:29, Gen 47:15, and Judg 18:14. Solly
Very interesting. If I do a similar search with the scope set to chapter, I find similar results. See Gen. 43:29; Psalm 90:13; Dan. 10:17; Rom. 10:19, which should match items found in your search. I do notice that each unexpected hit includes a question at the end of a sentence within the verse, but not the final sentence of the verse. A good puzzle indeed! Timothy Jenney
Just a comment. Your original search missing some question marks that appeared in the middle of the verse, like at Gen 31:36; 32:17. Suggest changing the scope to sentence, if you want to find all of them. However, I am still getting a false positive at Gen 3:1 (ESV), whether the scope is set to verse or sentence.
drsdanderson
Thanks for pointing this out about the scope. Why do you say that Genesis 3:1 is a false positive? That verse has a question mark after the last word.
Timothy Jenney
Hah! You are right! I was looking at the end of the paragraph ("…that the LORD God had made.") , not the end of the verse (…any tree in the garden’?”). Thanks!
