profound compassion up and down the hierarchy

Today's reading (with yesterday's and with tomorrow's) is full of compassion words and concepts.

 

It also stresses the depth of the human heart in relationships that include all categories up and down the hierarchy of social constructs.

 

The procedural nature of dealing with an offending brother is overtaken by the communal and familial.

 

The most powerful verse in this set is where Jesus puts himself, or allows himself to be there, in the mix:

οὗ γάρ εἰσιν δύο ἢ τρεῖς

συνηγμένοι εἰς τὸ ἐμὸν ὄνομα

ἐκεῖ εἰμι ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν
