VSmith
Dear Accordance Community, I desperately need help with a Hebrew/Greek font issue! I used Accordance for Mac from 2001 until last week, when I had to change to a Windows computer. I have 16 years of MS Word for Mac files that used the Accordance for Mac fonts (Yehudit and Helena). Now, when I try to view or edit any of those hundreds of documents with MS Word for Windows, the Hebrew and Greek is gibberish. I tried highlighting the gibberish and changing it to the Accordance font, but that does not resolve the issue. I need a way to convert the gibberish back into readable Hebrew and Greek. PLEASE HELP! Thanks and God bless!
Fabian
I used Accordance for Mac from 2001 This seems to be the problem. Try this solution https://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/21013-greek-text-copypaste-issue/?p=102200 I had made a clean Install, with all downloaded new for Sierra and this bug doesn't affect me. But it seems for long Accordance users the old Helena font which is still on your machine does. Greetings Fabian
Helen Brown
Sorry for the bad news, but there is no easy solution. The Helena and Yehudit fonts are not compatible with Windows, so Word on Windows will never display them correctly. My suggestions are: Open them on a Mac with Accordance and the old fonts, and save them as PDF files which embed the fonts. The files will be readable on PC but not editable. Repaste each piece of Greek and Hebrew by copying from Accordance on Windows which will automatically convert the text into Unicode. Unicode will appear correctly on any platform and mostly does not require special fonts. Find a really sharp person to write conversion routines for each original character to the correct Unicode character. By the way, we have enabled and recommended the use of Unicode fonts when exporting from Accordance for many years.
Daniel Saunders
There's a previous post in the forums from Tony Pyles where he has written a Word macro to convert fonts.
VSmith
By the way, we have enabled and recommended the use of Unicode fonts when exporting from Accordance for many years. Thanks, Helen. I used the Yehudit and Helena fonts because they look so much nicer than the Unicode! Even now, when my Accordance for Windows sends Hebrew or Greek to MS Word, it looks much better in Accordance than in Word. I have hundreds, maybe thousands, of affected files. Is there anyway to do the PDF conversion you mention IN BULK, rather than one file at a time? Any tips much appreciated! Thanks and God bless! Helen Brown
I do not know of a way to convert multiple documents to PDF, although I am sure an AppleScript could be written for this.
