Oddity when trying to work with combined texts

When trying to rename a text combo in "Manage Combined Resources" I get a strong beep with delayed typing capability on each key stroke, as if it were an error.

 

After creating a named combo, it appears only in the list within the "Manage Combined Resources" pane but not from the actual text pane drop down. I cannot add the new text set to my dsiplayed text panes.

 

Also, I have not been able to make any changes to the text sets that will appear as available to me in my drop down menu of the text panes. I always and only have a 3 or 4 of the same text combo sets to choose from. I can move them up and down in the prioritization in "Manage Combined Resources" but it makes no change in real time outside of the "Manage Combined Resources" dialogue box.
