However, even though I have access to them, I often find myself using the OT and NT Bible Background commentaries included in the IVP collection instead. I'm not sure if it's because the content is a little more concise, but I find myself referencing them all the time. Mark Allison Posted February 22, 2016 Share Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) ZIBBCOT/NT are a multi-volume set and typically include more detail than the IVP resources. I think you'd do well to have both. I was recently looking at "Rahab" in Ps. 89:10. The attached image shows the difference between the two, which I suppose is fairly typical. Understanding the language is one, but it is often hard to convey the insights to nonspecialists, who can be intimidated by Greek and Hebrew. Another doorway is culture, which is where these resources shine. Today's audiences are comfortable with the idea that other people live have different cultures.
