circuitrider
I really enjoy using Quiksilver. I am not a power user but find it very handy for locating files quickly. I am looking into Launchbar right not with the 30 day free trial. The reason that I am looking into another launcher is because I am concerned about Quicksilver loosing support and development later down the road. Anyone out there have any experience with these programs? Thanks!
Joel Brown
I've never tried LaunchBar, as it cost money. Quicksilver has been fantastic for me, even now on Snow Leopard. For a while it was out of development, but seemed to be picked up by the open source community. I've gotten my latest builds from: http://github.com/tiennou/blacktree-alchemy/downloads And a support group at: http://groups.google.com/group/blacktree-quicksilver This last build was made in March. Not exactly active development, but seems to be more than the initial blacktree development. I'm really hoping it stays active, as I tried Butler and wasn't particularly happy, and don't want to pay for Launchbar.
Joe Weaks
Minor attention to the opensource development of Quicksilver remains. but it is enough such that when it was broken for some in Snow Leopard, they got a fix out quick. I'd say, if you're happy with it, and it does what you need, and it's reliable, then there's no reason to switch. I've tried to leave QS for LaunchBar and Google QSB and others, but came back. Outis
hmm. I've used launchbar for about 7 or 8 years and have liked it a lot. but, if quicksiver is free, it might be worth looking into. The launchbar price ($10 or $20) wasn't bad. But free is better.
circuitrider
Thanks for the replies! I am going to dig into Launchbar and see if I like it or not. I'll probably stick with Quicksilver though.
Julia Falling
Hey - Another program to consider is Butler. I've been using it for years. It started out as freeware, and is now shareware. I liked it so well when it was free that I sent the developer $15. When it became shareware, he didn't ask me to pay for it since I had contributed at the development stage. Fastest way to launch a program that I have tried. Julia
ChristianB
I think LaunchBar is the far superior product. The only think it doesn't have is triggers. And some complain about the relatively small UI. Else its better in almost every detail. See Don McAllisters Screencasts for an introduction: LaunchBar 5 Part 1+2 http://cl.ly/33rJ Alfred looks good too. Its free and good supported but not nearly as powerful as QS or LB (even with the powerpack). The continuously add new features though? I just posted a package of scripts for LaunchBar here: http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5191
