Searching for Imperative Type

Is it possible to search for all forms a particular imperative? I am wanting to see all instances where the QAL Imperative form קָטְלָה is used as opposed to קְטַל/קְטֹל. I'm trying to figure out which types of roots tend to take this form.

Okay provided that I understand your request...

 

(1) if you want to find all the different verbs in the Tanakh/Hebrew Bible in that are QAL imperatives you would do something like this:

 

 

 

(2) One the other hand if you know which verb you want to search for then you would do something like this:

If you do not want to type everything out you do this.

(1) click on search

(2) Then click on Enter Tag

(3) Then click on verb (or whatever other tag you like)

 

 

Then a code insersion dialogue box should apear.

And you can choose QAL and Imperfect

These will be added to the search entry box

What I was trying to do is find all roots that can use the form קָטְלָה for their imperative in Qal. As you probably know there are 3 types of Qal imperatives קְטֹל, קְטַל, קָטְלָה, at least that's what the paradigm says. So I was curious to see if certain types of roots prefer one of these over the other or if all roots can use any of them. I suspect that the קְטַל is for II-gutturals and III-gutturals. Just not sure when one would take the קָטְלָה.

It seems that you are looking for Masculine singular Qal imperative

Try this..

 

(1) open a Hebrew Text

(2) in the search entry book type or cut and paste [Suffix paragogicHeh] [Verb qal imperative masculine singular]

(3) begin your search

 

This picks up 207 hits which is short of 242 times the Basics of Biblical Hebrew grammar mentions:

Another way to search for the Masculine singular Qal imperative would be to pull up a verse where know it appears. 

For example Psalms 69:19...

קָרְבָ֣ה אֶל־נַפְשִׁ֣י גְאָלָ֑הּ לְמַ֖עַן אֹיְבַ֣י פְּדֵֽנִי׃

(1) double click on קָרְבָ֣ה

(2) hover over the 'search for' heading

(3) a pop up box with the options Lexeme, Inflected, Tag, and Letters should appear

(4) choose tag (this will add the grammartical tags of קָרְבָ֣ה / [Suffix paragogicHeh] [Verb qal imperative masculine singular] to the search entry box

 

 

(5) When you run your search you should get these results:
