Good question. I am reminded of the famous Wendy's ad campaign of my childhood, Where's the beef?

 

The letter ב seems re-inked, the below-marks (tsere and gaʿya) are "distressed," and the yod and the zayin are flaky. All signs of distress in this locality, making the disappearance of a once-there dagesh quite plausible. But a diplomatic edition is not in the business of speculating about the ghosts of departed marks. Except perhaps in its notes.

 

As in other cases, I encourage you to propose a corresponding change to UXLC.
