Ronald Nickelson
I'm looking to purchase an Atlas module that is the best one (most comprehensive) for providing tables of distances. Which one would that be?
ukfraser
Welcome to the forum Ronald i'm not sure if the accordance bible atlas provides distances as its not a resource i have as it doesnt run on ios and i hope someone will chime in because while the information is not in a table as requested, i think it may give you details on routes. https://accordancebible.com/product/accordance-bible-atlas-version-2-2/ Ive had a look in holman, sacred bridge and zondervan, then migrated to the esv, jps and zondervan niv study bibles and none of these provide a table of distances. All the atlases show routes and have a distance scale which is ok for paper copies but less practical for using string or cotton on a screen. Im guessing you are looking for something like the table you find in modern road atlases. in terms of clarity of cartography and the usefulness of routes, my go to is still the holman. https://accordancebible.com/product/holman-bible-atlas-a-complete-guide-to-the-expansive-geography-of-biblical-history/ however, if the accordance atlas is the right tool, then look at the graphics packages rather than just the atlas, especially when they are on sale. https://accordancebible.com/product/graphics-learner-collection-accordance-13/
Tony Lawrence
May I suggest this part of the Accordance Help. I think the Atlas module may provide what you are wanting. http://accordancefiles2.com/helpfiles/OSX12/content/topics/07_atlas/measure_map_distance.htm 3

Ronald Nickelson
Thanks to all. Distances are tricky because there are at least two ways of viewing them: (1) "as the crow flies," straight-line distances and (2) the always longer real-world distances that take into account the fact that few if any roads are straight-line between two cities. Ronald Nickelson
Attached is what I'm looking for in a more comprehensive format. Pages from Chronological and Background Charts of the OT.pdf
Solly
To find road distances, I just divide the road into linear segments and added the segment lengths. The roads themselves have a bit of uncertainty in their locations as well. All of these distances and locations are akin to back of envelope engineering calculations—don't put the official seal on them. —Joseph
Dan Langston
The best solution seems to be.....upload the .pdf table into a user tool
Mark Allison
I like to add the "Roman Roads" layer (or "Ancient Highways" to view pre-Roman pathways) and then use the option key on a Mac, or the alt key on a PC to measure distances. Simply hold down the option/alt key while dragging, and click on the point at which the road changes direction. Keep holding down the option/alt key and it will continue to add the segment distances together for a more accurate measurement. 4

It's not perfect, but it's a pretty good approximation. The caveat is that you'd have to repeat this process for every pair of cities if you're trying to compare things for some reason. Plus the Atlas doesn't work on iOS yet (feature request, hint, hint). Returning to the original request, I haven't come across a table like that in the resources I have. A search all for miles or distance(s) in captions didn't turn anything up.
