ToddPeperkorn
I am currently looking at doing some work with MT and LXX. I have the Scholar's edition standard, and have been pretty satisfied with the level of resources it allows me. But I am wanting to do comparison work between the MT and LXX, and possibly the Vulgate as well. I'm no LXX expert, and I see that there are numerous editions available. Can someone give me a run down on the different packages that would help with LXX/MT studies and why to get one or the other? Many thanks, Todd
Helen Brown
You need the Greek Septuagint (Rahlf's), grammatically tagged. I recommend the NETS translation. If you really want to compare word for word with Hebrew, the MT/LXX module is invaluable, but you still need the LXX itself, so the MT/LXX add-on bundle is a good deal. And if you haven't already seen it, read David's recent blog post on some great tips for searching the MT/LXX.
Lorinda H. M. Hoover
In terms of NETS vs. Brenton, NETS is a much more recent translation, and the English is modern. Brenton always seemd stilted to me. Also, NETS includes translations of some LXX books that Brenton does not. I'm forgetting the specifics right now, but I asked about this a while back and got NETS when I did in great part because it was more complete. In terms of the Vulgate, I'm holding out for the tagged version to be finished. (Right now only the tagged New Testament is available). That, and I have several other modules higher up on my wish list! Lorinda
