Charles Stock Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Help! On Friday, my trusty PowerBook bit the dust, according to the Geniuses at the Apple Store. So, I now have a MacBook Pro. (Hooray
jpkang Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 By "restored all ... files" I'm not sure if you copied over your entire previous Accordance folder or if you were copying modules piecemeal to an Accordance folder you created with a fresh install on your MacBook Pro, but a couple things come to mind: 1. Is the Accordance Settings
Helen Brown Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Charles: The file that seems to be missing may be Accordance settings, but if you did copy it over it may be corrupt. I recommend you call Jon at the tech support number between 10 and 6 EST Monday to Friday, and he can supply any codes you need. You probably will need to use Add Modules to get these modules back in your pop-up menus.

So, now I'm on my way to Boston without a working copy of Accordance. I tried replacing the settings folder, etc. but kept getting the same results. All the Bibles work, but none of the tools (commentaries, lexicons, etc.) except for those associated with the NIV collection. Hopefully I can connect on Tuesday!

Well, since it seems you can't get through, I'll try to give some limited (hopefully not too late) advice. Inside Accordance, go to Edit Menu -> Edit Modules -> Tools. For each item of the list, click the Remove button. Then, once you are done, go to Edit Menu -> Add Module..., navigate to where your Tools are now and select them all to re-import them to Accordance. Hopefully, it will still remember the unlocking codes.
Charles Stock Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Thanks for the suggestion. I just arrived in the hotel room and tried this, but still ended up with pretty much all my Bible texts and only NIV related tools. All the others asked me for the group unlock codes. The ones I had, don't work. So, maybe tomorrow, I can gather all my unlock codes and a few I don't have and reinstall it. I am wondering, how do I preserve my Notes? They are of great value to me.
Joel Brown Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I'm surprised the codes didn't work, unless they were for a different group. As previously stated, if you call the Tech Support (I'm surprised you couldn't get through earlier) they can look up your record and give you any codes you lost. Regarding the Notes, they work exactly like the tools. Go ahead and do Edit menu -> Edit Modules -> User Notes, remove any items that are there. Then back to Edit menu -> Add Module... , navigate to where your user notes file is located, and double-click it. It should then be automatically added to Accordance.
Helen Brown Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Charles came to the seminar still needing to add his tools back with a bunch of codes. He understood that the poor support he received over the weekend was largely due to the fact that some of us are "on the road" with these seminars, and the others are bravely trying to hold the fort at home.

Yes!! Helen was magnificently patient as she helped me get my mess cleaned up! David Lang and Helen presented a greatly helpful one-day seminar. I highly recommend it.
Bruce Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Hi, I don't know if anyone will see this late addition to this topic, but here goes. Like the person who started this thread, I've just purchased a new MacBook to replace my PowerBook G4 that died while I was at SBL. But I have not yet transferred my Accordance files over. I had used Migration Assistant to move everything over, but the installation on the new MacBook was buggy enough that I did a fresh erase and install on it. The folks at Apple admitted that Migration Assistant is still imperfect. Now before I try moving Accordance to the new computer, can anyone provide me with a step-by-step procedure for doing this correctly? thanks, Bruce Hansen
Helen Brown Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 As well as copying the Accordance folder to Applications and reinstalling the latest version of Accordance, remember that the Preferences you use and the files you save (like Highlights) are in ~user/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences ~user/Documents/Accordance files Try to copy these over from the older computer. That should fix work. Sometimes when they are migrated they lose their file type (look like Unix boxes) and then you need to fix that with this File type fixer utility.

Hi Helen, I have tried this, but when I try to launch Accordance I get the following message: The file "General" cannot be modified, because write permission has been denied. The write permissions for this file may be changed by opening "Get Info" in the Finder. I have modified the permissions, but still get the same message. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bruce
Helen Brown Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Again, you need to modify permissions in the user/Library/Preferences. These probably belong to your other user.
Bruce Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks, Helen. I had previously only changed the Permission for that one file, "General." Now I've changed the Permission for the whole Preferences folder. That did the trick. I'm now transferred and up and running, quickly and painlessly.
