Compare Multiple Texts - Bug

When I enable Compare Multiple Texts, the leftmost text (in my example the HCSBS) never displays any of the highlighting. This is pretty easy to reproduce. I just created a new Workspace which brought up my default text. I then changed the preference from 'Single Text' to 'Multiple Texts'. I then added 4 other texts one by one and the problem became apparent.

Paul, I believe this is because when comparing multiple texts the left text is typically the base text from which all comparisons are made. When you select "Single Text" in Comparison Preferences, both texts are able to be highlighted as they are showing differences between one another. However, when you compare multiple texts, all additional texts you add are being compared with the initial base text. So each text is not showing differences with every other text, but rather all are being compared to the initial text on the left. That's why this initial text remains unhighlighted, as it has no differences when compared to itself.

 

At least I think that's what is going on, although I am not a developer though so someone else can jump in if I am way off base :-)

Darin is exactly right. When comparing multiple texts, the leftmost text is the base text. All other texts to the right are showing differences with the base text.

 

There is, however, a minor issue with this feature. When the left-most text is, say BHS-W4, and the other texts are all English Bibles, the compare texts with multiple does not work because it is using the Hebrew text as the base. It would be a good enhancement if the left-most text for each language was the base text for all other texts of that language. A simple workaround for now is to move the BHS text to the far right, but this does not work if you want to compare three English translations to three Greek New Testament text, for example.

For some clarification, it does not compare the leftmost pane. It is comparing whichever pane is corresponding to the search text. That pane, regardless of location, is the source text from which all comparisons are made. Only if there is no pane corresponding to the source pane does it use the leftmost as the source. So, Robb, it shows nothing because your search pane is BHS-W4, and there is nothing against which to compare that.
