Chuck Schneider Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Shortly after I got Accordance in September, I became acquainted with some of the voices that can be used to recite a selection of text out loud. Some of these voices are hilarious, but I eventually settled for Alex (the default, I think). It seems to me that the English words come out pretty well, but, since I have no knowledge of Greek, I can only guess whether the Greek words/letters are also being pronounced correctly. Do these Accordance voices pronounce letters/words correctly in Greek and Hebrew as well? Do you think this feature could be used to support an attempt to learn New Testament Greek?
danzac Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 The Mac voice Alex reads about as good as my 1st year Greek students. It is okay, not great.
Helen Brown Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Actually, Greek and Hebrew were originally optimized for the Fred and Junior voices. You may want to try those, but of course it's mechanical and not always accurate.
Joe Weaks Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Do you think this feature could be used to support an attempt to learn New Testament Greek? The answer to that question is definitely yes. The pronunciation is as good as you would expect from a year's worth of learning Greek, and will not "thwart" your advancement on account of any inadequacies.
Chuck Schneider Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 That's great. Thanks for all the helpful responses.
