Tony Lawrence Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I have a lecture scheduled where I am to speak on loving children and grandchildren. I did a search for the words "Children’s children" only to find one hit in the NKJVS. However, when I searched the KJVS I found ten instances. So I paralleled the two translations to find that the NKJVS did, in fact, have several more instances that were not being picked up. I also noted when I did a key number search ([KEY H1121] [KEY H1121]) the KJV found twenty hits (including "son's son") whereas the NKJV only found four hits. I customarily preach and teach from the NKJV and chose the original KJV for this search since they have the same textual base. Has anyone else observed this issue?
Kristin Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Hi @Tony Lawrence, I ran the search and I see what you mean. The NKJV pulls only Prov 17:6, while the KJV has 10 results. If I open the Hebrew and look at Gen 45:10 as a random example, the two words of בֵּן are linking to the two independent words of "children" in both the KJV and NKJV, so I don't know. Super strange. 1
Mike Atnip Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I played around with this also, trying a simple construct search, with the same results. But I am a novice with the constructs. The only possible distinction I thought of is that the one result in the NKJVS is at the beginning of the verse. But that should not make any difference, and may not have anything to do with the matter.
Kristin Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Hi @Tony Lawrence and @Mike Atnip, I have a message from Mark Allison: "The issue with Accordance not finding every instance of “children’s children” in the NKJVS is that there’s an erroneous space after the apostrophe. If you search for "children’ s children” in the NKJVS you’ll find what you’re looking for." 4 2
