INFER Command excluding some words? And, searching for roots

First, Is there any way to exclude some Greek words when using the INFER command? For example, I don't want Accordance to search for καί, when using the INFER command. See attached.

 

Second, there's no way for me to use the INFER command to search for cognates, right?

Not that I know of... (BibleWorks--RIP--had a Key Words in Context tool that let you have advanced inclusions/exclusions when doing what the INFER command does.)

You cannot exclude words from an [INFER] command they way you are describing but you can do includes like the Bibleworks key Words (or excludes) if you want to make sure key words are either included or excluded in a verse. For example, you can include specific words (or exclude them), by setting up new tab and searching for those words and then using an <AND> or <NOT> in the tab that contains the [INFER] i.e. "[INFER source_for_infer] [AND/NOT] [CONTENTS source_for_includes/excludes]"

There is no way to do cognates because the source and destination languages must be the same but you can use the LXX to bridge between the MT and the Greek.

Here is a pretty simple example. In this case, I am looking for any NT quotes of OT texts that contain the name יהוה. My first search is a search of verses that contain יהוה in the Hebrew text. My next search is a search of the LXX limiting it only to the occurrences found in the Hebrew search i.e. using the [CONTENTS] command to include only the verses found in the Hebrew text tab i.e. the tab named "Yahweh." I then use an [INFER] command in the NA28 text to look for quotes of the LXX that originally had יהוה in the Hebrew text. 

Without using the linked Hebrew text, I could search the Greek text for occurrences of κυριος (which would limit the LXX tab to only verses that contained κυριος) but there are many instances of κυριος that are not translations of יהוה and so I would get many false positives. I would also miss verses like Matt. 4:4 where we have one of the more rare occurrences where θεος rather than κυριος is used for a translation of יהוה. I could search the LXX for both κυριος <OR> θεος and I would then likely get most verses that contained יהוה but then the occurrence of false positives would likely be in the thousands. By linking the Hebrew text with the LXX using the [CONTENTS] command, I get the verses I want, but eliminate most of the work in dealing with false positives.

Doing the same search with [INFER] but without using the linked Hebrew text and relying only on the Greek resulted in about 50 additional hits which do not correspond to verses containing יהוה and the search took almost 3 times longer to complete i.e. using the linked Hebrew text saved a lot of time both waiting for the search to complete and in reviewing the result for relevant hits.
