Grouping function does not work in diagramming

Hello:

I am using the diagram module in Accordance 13.3.3. The group and ungroup buttons do not work when I attempt to combine a phrase. The buttons themselves are dim on the palette. Nor does control G work. 

 

How do I fix this?
