Donald Cobb
Hi all, I recently bought the GNT and the Andersen-Forbes MT syntax modules. I'm not really sure where to begin, though. Is there any kind of detailed Manuel for these? I've watched the videos for the Andersen-Forbes module, which show the work that has gone into it, but what's missing is a series of practical examples showing in what specific ways it can be useful and how to use it to get results. I've got a couple of things in mind that can maybe get me started. For instance: using the GNT syntax resource, is there a way to find the verses that state that human beings cannot look upon God? E.g. God as direct object connected with verbs of seeing (ὁράω, etc.) with a negation. How would I go about doing something like this? Thanks for any help you can provide!
GYDOF1729
Donald, You nailed it with this topic. I too bought the GNT and the Andersen-Forbes MT syntax modules. The practicality of this tool is def missing.
mgvh
As was noted in a previous thread, part of what @Donald Cobbis asking for is a way to access Louw-Nida domains in searching. Let's hope that is part of version 14. So... firing up BibleWorks, I ran a search on LN domain 24.1 which deals with "seeing," used WordList manager to get all the words, copy to Word, search and replace to get this list: ὁράω, βλέπω, ὀφθαλμός, πρόσωπον, θεωρέω, τυφλός, φανερόω, φαίνω, φεύγω, ἀναβλέπω, θεάομαι, κρύπτω, φανερός, ἀτενίζω, κατανοέω, ἐμβλέπω, ὅραμα, ἐμφανίζω, ἐπιδείκνυμι, περιβλέπω, ἐπιφάνεια, παρατηρέω, σκοπέω, ἀόρατος, ἀφανίζω, εἶδος, ἐπέχω, παρακύπτω, ἐπιφαίνω, ὅρασις, προοράω, διαβλέπω, ἐπιβλέπω, θέατρον, φανερῶς, ἀναθεωρέω, ἐμφανής, ἐποπτεύω, μονόφθαλμος, αἴνιγμα, ἀνάβλεψις, αὐτόπτης, ἄφαντος, βλέμμα, ἐπόπτης, θεωρία, κατασκοπέω, κατοπτρίζω, ὀπτάνομαι, ὁρατός, παρατήρησις, τηλαυγῶς, φαντάζω Then, using Greek construct search, I created this using syntax parameters and pasting in that list to the LEX field. This will only search the NA28 Greek NT, but it generates what I suspect are the results you want: Matt 5.8; John 1.18; 1 John 4.12 You could could add a negation, but for this I think it is not necessary to check results.
