Basic Greek grammar question (BBG)

Schulschlus

Recommended Posts

From BBG by Mounce, a warmup exercise. (p.23)

τοῖς υἱοῖς τῷ πονηροῖς

Why is the second article Dat Singular, while the adjective is dative plural? Is this a mistake or something I just don't understand? It is the same in the print edition, so I know it is not a mistake by accordance, so I probably just don't understand the concept. (The solution shows "to the wicked sons")

Help would be appreciated

Based on the translation that's proposed, I would say it's definitely an error. "To the wicked sons" should be τοῖς υἱοῖς τοῖς πονηροῖς. The dative singular makes no sense here.
