Syntax Search in BHS: Subject + Waw + Predicate

Hi,

I'd like to search for a pattern as "Subject + Waw + Predicate". I'm having difficulty in setting it up.

This seems to be a structure in Daniel 11:5, which says: וְיֶחֱזַ֥ק מֶֽלֶךְ־הַנֶּ֖גֶב וּמִן־שָׂרָ֑יו וְיֶחֱזַ֤ק עָלָיו֙ וּמָשָׁ֔ל מִמְשָׁ֥ל רַ֖ב מֶמְשַׁלְתּֽוֹ׃ (Dan 11:5)

I'm interested in the red/green color part of the verse.

This is what the Holmstedt Syntax module shows:

I'm trying to set up something like this:

But I can't even find Daniel 11:5.

Help appreciated!

Oh, I love this search. I only noticed this pattern of BH syntax when we had tagged about half the Bible.

You need to decrease your levels, use Subject Phrase (instead of Subject Word), and eliminate the first "within" operator.

*I made an error: for more results, put the level for the waw at "1" as well. You should get around 70 hits*

Thank you very much, Dr. Holmstedt. It's so great to have the author to help me out!

I tried to follow your example (also set the waw depth to 1), but I'm still not getting what I'm looking for. And, Daniel 11:5 is still not part of the search result.

It looks like all the results are Waw + Subject + Verb.

For my purpose, it does not have to be a subject phrase. I also want to include the subject word as well. However, I tried to first follow your example below.

Thanks again for helping out! This is a very interesting construct. It strikes me as very unusual. It'll be great to see other similar cases in the HB.

LXX has ignored the waw:

Ah, that's really weird. I've attached my result list. Perhaps there is a bug (are you using Mac, which is what I'm using?)

*For interested folks, here the full list of hits I had -- but note that I didn't check them carefully:

Yes.

I'm on MacOS 11.5.

I found out why!

It was because I was searching for "letters" and not "words." I was not aware of the search field. This seems to be an issue to be addressed. Syntax Search should search "words" by default, right?
