Hi michel, i wondered why you wanted this volume rather than the niv compact bible commentary by sailhammer? This is an abridgement of that and been carried out by david frees. It appears this volume is about 450 pages compared to the approx 650 pages of the compact volume.

Hi Fraser,

I would prefer Sailhamer’s NIV Compact Bible Commentary, latest issue 2009. But when others requested it, Rick Bennett shot down the idea with the curious comment that it was too "old.” There are a myriad of works in Accordance older than 2009, including some over a century old.

Sailhamer’s compact commentary was requested at https://forums.accordancebible.com/topic/16293-sailhamer-niv-compact-commentary/?tab=comments#comment-79055 (in which you will find Rick’s comment) and also at https://forums.accordancebible.com/topic/30695-niv-compact-bible-commentary-by-john-h-sailhamer/?tab=comments#comment-150459 .

I made this new request with Rick’s post in mind—there is a newer, electronic version of the compact commentary. I know it is abridged. But my copy of the compact commentary has come apart, so I would like an electronic version of it, even an abridged one. I have recommended Sailhamer’s compact commentary to scholars, grad students, regular churchgoers, friends, and family. Many have marvelled at how much they learned from it, even those in academia.

As an aside, I also can’t believe that Accordance doesn’t offer Sailhamer’s The Meaning of the Pentateuch: Revelation, Composition, and Interpretation and The Pentateuch as Narrative: A Biblical-Theological Commentary, especially when they have contracts with Zondervan.

I hope this answers your question.

Shalom,

Michel
