Darin Franklin Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 I use this command to compare two Bible texts. [CONTENTS Tab A] <NOT> [CONTENTS Tab B] I expect this to show me the verses which are in Tab A and not in Tab B. When Tab A and Tab B both use the default Verse search of "", then I get this error: "A book name must be entered at the selection point." The same thing happens if the Verse search is "*" in both. If I set the Verse search to "Gen-Rev" on Tab B, then it works like I expect. It also works if I do a Word search for "*" instead of Verse. Example: Find the verses which are in KJV and not RSV. Tab 1: KJV with Strong's Search Verses: * (or blank) Result: 31218 verses Tab 2: Revised Standard Version Search Verses: * (or blank) Result: 31196 verses Tab 3: KJV with Strong's Search Verses: [CONTENTS KJV with Strong’s] <NOT> [CONTENTS Revised Standard Version] Result: "A book name must be entered at the selection point." Change the search option on Tab 3 to Words or Flex. Result: "There are no verses in the current range of the “KJV with Strong’s” text, which fit the current search entry." On Tab 2, Search Verses: Gen-Rev Result: Now it works as expected. I get the 23 verses which are in KJV and not in RSV. The default search should work the same as searching for the full range of books in the text, since it gives the same set of verses. I see that this problem was also mentioned a few years ago. https://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/15050-comparing-translations-using-contents-command/ Accordance 13.1.2
Joel Brown Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Thanks for the report, I agree this is a subtle bug. We've logged it for repair, though I can't promise a fix time. As you note, you do have the workaround of searching for the book range directly.
