Accordance + Sidecar + Apple Pencil

Hey folks.. I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on an iPad Pro + Apple Pencil.

One of my main concerns is using sidecar with Accordance and the apple pencil for highlighting and notating the text with the new highlighting function.

I'd welcome your feedback on how effective this is (or even videos!).

I’ve heard very good things, but have not tried it myself yet since I use an iMac for day to day with two other monitors attached. I suppose at some point, I should try it to test things out. I’ll be interested to see what others say.

On a related note, I just got the new Magic Keyboard Cover for the iPad Pro, and this keyboard and trackpad combination are incredible. Really makes the iPad more of a full computer solution.

I'm envious of the weather, 75 degrees and sunny  :)

See... I was admiring the old school box versions of Outburst and Trivial Pursuit.

FWIW, I've been considering an iPad Pro with 2nd generation Apple Pencil and Sidecar vs the new iPad Air with the first generation Pencil and Luna Display. In my research I found this article quite interesting: Sidecar in macOS Catalina vs Luna Display, at https://www.imore.com/sidecar-macos-catalina-vs-luna-display.

What I'd _really_ like is the new highlighting functionality in the iOS app... ya know.. in case that happens to be somewhere near... and I didn't have to spend $1100 to get that functionality.. ya know.. in case it's close.   :)

Maybe I meant the rug. Perhaps you thought I was talking about the iPad rig...   :D

There's another option called Duet Display that now supports Windows and older versions of macOS that don't have Sidecar capability.

Thanks, Rick also pointed it out a few years ago  at https://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/20354-duet-display/?p=98790. I got it then, used it a bit, but, I wasn't impressed. It got stuck on "Connect to Mac," and I didn't want to follow the troubleshooting tips. There was also noticeable lag. Others might have had or might have better luck.

I'm still considering what to get. This combination of features in iOS, OSX, Windows, and Android would be perfect for me, but, of course, isn't available: the Windows and Android file system, the S6 deeper blacks, the iOS Unicode capabilities, Accordance on OSX and iOS, favorite iOS apps like Notability, a certain Windows program I use every day, DEX on the S6, and Luna Display, with no noticeable lag anywhere in the house.

Thanks for the help on this friends.

After quite a bit of research purchased the following:

Stylus

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N4GNGDR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Luna Display

https://lunadisplay.com/

I'm incredibly pleased with the results with my setup.

Late 2013 MBP

iPad (5th Gen)

I'm able to use the stylus for highlighting perfectly (including the "pen" highlighting). It took a bit of practice but for less than $100 I'm over the moon pleased.

Latency is a bit of an issue when I'm on my 3rd floor (wifi access point is in the basement). However, when needed I've just created an ad-hoc network from my MBP and connected my iPad to that.

All in all, I'm incredibly glad to have the full desktop version of Accordance + Stylus on my iPad!

  • 3 years later...

I'm still on Accordance 13 (soon to be 14!) but struggling to make Sidecar play nice with my iPad (not just with Accordance, but at all).

I meet all macOS and iPadOS system / hardware requirements but they won't talk to one another. I want it solely for Accordance - so didn't know if any others had found and resolved any issues more generally please?
