Accordance intrusiveness

Hi,

1. Some of my short keys in Word are overlapped by accordance (for ex. Command-Option a). Is there a way to avoid this ?

2. Accordance asks often to have access to my system.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Yohanan

The system access requests are more of a function of macOS Catalina.

The grants in question are:

  • Accessibility: Don't know.
  • Full Disk Access: Would be very useful to Accordance to comment here, but if I had to guess, it's related to the copy-protection.
  • Files and Folders: allows the ability to access modules on your Mac, since you can place these in various places on your Mac.

Yohanan,

The messages are coming from the system in Catalina.  The accessibility is used with the Get Verses, so you can automate interactions with other word processors.  The full disk access is so we can install and update modules.  I do find Catalina is pretty buggy if you have multiple Accordance apps, so this may be causing you to get the messages more than once.

The Get Verses shortcut (Cmd-Opt-A) can be disabled in the preferences (Preferences -> Export -> Other), or have its shortcut changed to something else (Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts).

Thank you Joel,

I just did that : unselect the Enable exports verses. But Word simply cannot recognise my style shortcut as long as Accordance is open. I cannot even enter a new shortcut in Word as long as Accordance is open. Eery time I try this the amplify window in the background presents informations. Allow me to specify that I always linger before switching to a new MacOs System so I am still on Mojave (MacOs 10.14.6).

Have a nice day.

I hope there will be a solution for every time I have to close the Accordance app in order to be at ease in my Word document.

Yohanan: Given that Accordance has Full Disk Access, if your concern is related to privacy, simply not having them open concurrently will not alleviate that concern.

Yohanan,

It seems like the export preference affects whether Accordance responds to the Get Verses hotkey, but it still gets registered to the system.  Try changing its shortcut in Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts.

Thank you Joel, this seems to have solved the interferences.

Regarding the answer coming from Dan, I must confess this worries me a little bit. Does actually Accordance have access to my whole hard disk and docs on my Mac ?

All best,

Accordance is set to store user files in documents, so it needs to write there.

Dear Tim,

Thank you for the desire to help. Allow me to say that I have no the least idea of what you mean, still less in regard to my problem, for in spite of using the Mac for 35 years at least, I never got interested in informatics, electronics.

Now, I have deleted most of the shortcuts of Accordance, solving some problems, but Accordance still interact with my moves on the keyboard when I AM NOT navigating within Accordance, but within  Word's app. I have the impression that it is right to consider the intrusiveness of an app into another app is a bug. BTW Accordance does not do that with other apps to my knowledge.

Best regards in Yeshou‘a.

Accordance intrusiveness into Word remains finally a serious problem. As I have a special command for styles in Word, I thought to clear the AND shortcut in Accordance. But if one does that he cannot write anymore the letter 'a' in his Word document as long as Accordance is open. I am not sure if this is a big difficulty and a lot of work, but IMHO technical people at OakTree should deal with this problem. Right now I am obliged to Loog at Accordance on my little screen in the MacBook besides the Mac where I work on my documents.

All best regards.

Correction: I reopened the Accordance and now I can write the letter 'a'. Allow me however to say that It remains strange that a person desiring to use freely the shortcuts in Word should clear all or most of the shortcuts in Accordance. I find not any pleasure in complaining about this, just stating the facts.

Best. Yohanan

EVEN WHEN ALL SHORTCUTS HAVE BEEN CLEARED IN ACCORDANCE SOME OF MY SHORCUTS COMMANDS IN WORD DO NOT WORK AS LONG AS ACCORDANCE IS OPEN... In the absence of response must I guess that this is a problem people in Accordance are not willing to correct, or that it represents too much change in programming  (?). I mean the impermeability (don't remember the technical term meaning the apps are not intrusive into another one) between your app and Word.

Yohanan, the only shortcut Accordance interacts with the system on is the Get Verses shortcut, which we have already shown you how to correct.  Which other shortcuts in Word are unavailable?

Sorry Joel, I should have answered without delaying, for right now I do not remember exactly. I have a lot of shortcuts in Word for character as well as paragraph styles. I am sure of what I affirmed, but I will try to be alert and tell you as soon as I check this again, having Accordance and word working simultaneously.

Best.

I am still bothered with the way Accordance interferes with Word. As I said las year, I was obliged to clear ALL the shortcuts of Accordance, but still, it does not solve the problem entirely. For example if, within Word 2019 (MacOs) I hit Command-H, I am immediately led out of my Word doc into the window of Accordance which is open.

Thanks for any attempt at answering the question, or, at least, recognize the problem and solve it in the next versions.

Yours,

Yohanan

Yohanan,

For sure, you were having legit conflict with the Get Verses shortcut (Cmd-Opt-A), since it is registered as a system-wide shortcut such that you can not use that as a shortcut in Word. But that is the only system-wide shortcut for Accordance; no other shortcut triggers anything in Accordance unless Accordance is the front running application. Deleting other shortcuts in Accordance was unnecessary.

And, you may also be seeing mouse-pointer response when Accordance is in the background, meaning, your pointer can hover over a word in an Accordance window and the Instant Details box will change, all of this even if Accordance is in the background. I've always found that behavior jolting and undesirable.

But I really think other problems you're having are not related to Accordance; you are confusing yourself. For instance, you said pressing Command-H brings up the Accordance window, but no, that's not what's happening. The Command-H is a systemwide shortcut in the operating system that hides the current application. You can see it under the application menu. It's not "bringing the Accordance window to the front" per se; it is hiding the Word window, revealing Accordance behind it.

Are you good at being mindful of what application is the front app? You can see "Word" or "Accordance" as the second menu item in the menu bar to verify. I suspect there are times when you're using a Word shortcut, but Accordance is the active application.

When you say "SOME OF MY SHORCUTS COMMANDS IN WORD DO NOT WORK AS LONG AS ACCORDANCE IS OPEN" [sic], that is too vague. If you give a specific example, I or someone can try and replicate it.

Just trying to help.
