For over fifty years Donald Robinson has served God’s people as a scholar and a Church leader. Throughout his ministry his pen was also active, and his various reflections upon the Bible, Christian Theology, pastoral practice, liturgy, and Christian history stimulated others to think carefully about God and their own faith in his Son. The publication of his own Selected Works, as well as the essays written by others in appreciation, now allows new generations to engage with Bishop Robinson’s thinking, and so to marvel afresh over the good news of Jesus for this world.

Volume 1: Assembling God’s People
Robinson’s ecclesiological insights are an area of theology that he is famous for. This volume includes articles about the people of God in both the Old and New Testament along with theological reflections on the doctrine of the church. The volume also includes the publication of Robinson’s 1981 Moore College Lectures investigating the structure of New Testament theology. This work was published as Faith’s Framework.
Volume 2: Preaching God’s Word
This volume includes Robinson’s scholarship and pastoral wisdom regarding the preaching of God’s word. It covers theological explorations into the nature and importance of the Bible and sacraments. Also, there are several articles reflecting on ministry, church leadership and church governance.
Volume 3: Biblical and Liturgical Studies
Robinson was known for his astute exegetical observations. This volume includes several articles on the Bible ranging from commentaries on entire books to focused studies on a few significant verses. The second section of this volume includes Robinson’s work on the place and nature of liturgy. He was a leading Australian liturgiologist in his day and his scholarship in this area deserves a wider audience.
Volume 4: Historical Studies and Series Index
The final volume of Robinson’s works is a collection of historical studies. The meticulous attention to detail that Robinson applied to his biblical studies is also evident in his historical work. He was particularly interested in the history of Sydney Diocese and this volume includes many reflections from later in his life about his own experiences at formative moments for the diocese. This volume also includes a scriptural and topical index for the entire collection of Robinson’s Works.
Appreciation
This is a collection of scholar’s and pastor’s engagement with aspects of Robinson’s theology and exegesis. The range of topics considered varies widely and encompasses the theological insights Robinson is most famous for. The volume serves as a demonstration of the far-reaching legacy Robinson left through his decades of ministry.

“Donald Robinson was one of the most influential teachers in the history of Moore College. His contributions in Biblical Theology, New Testament studies, Christian doctrine and Church history continue to shape the approach of not just those who sat in his classes, but many more who have benefited from his writing or from his generous personal correspondence. His intellectual journey, combining a deep interest in the biblical text, the life and activity of the churches, and a fascination with the growth of the gospel through history—particularly in the early years following the arrival of the British in Australia—is reflected in his writing. The appearance of these final two volumes in the collection will help future generations to see the breadth of his interest and the abiding significance of his contribution.”
