ukfraser Posted July 1, 2018 Share Posted July 1, 2018 I was wondering if there are any others who would value an English translation as an audio bible. We have hebrew and Greek. I find reading aloud gives a different perspective to just reading a passage silently. But for daily reading, i find it’s also nice to be read to. I can only find the niv as an audio which isn’t the best translation but wondered if there are any others interested that might make it worth Accordance pursuing. I would like something with a bit more grandeur like the nrsv or esv (though I like the niv). I think I value listening together with seeing more the older I get. Solly Posted July 5, 2018 Share Posted July 5, 2018 (edited) The YouVersion organization has a web link that will work with a standard browser, including the Accordance browser. I created a user tool with the link set to open the ESV at John 1. One may change versions, starting point, and such as well as initiating audio playback. My little user tool has been tested in both macOS and iOS versions of Accordance. I did this because I am not aware of any bookmark feature in the Accordance browser. Since this involves IP outside the OakTree organization, I have not posted it here. I appreciate any feedback from staff about the appropriateness of posting such a user tool in the forums or Accordance Exchange. I have done some research on the subject and found some good stuff from my past bookmarks. If you like someone who has a great voice try familyradio.org from Oakland California read by Hendrick Van Dyke. Go to the Bible>Listen to Bible on Soundcloud on this website. Its the KJV and MKJV. Awesome voice. The best. My first ever purchase was Alexander Scourby reading the KJV on CD. biblestudytools.com has a good ESV and voice. wordproject.org has a great language selection Greek NT and Modern Greek, Hebrew and Latin Vulgate. Also French German and Italian. Only the KJV. I like listening to the Hebrew great voice. listen.talkingbibles.org has a good KJV Bible.is has a big selection of versions NIV and possibly the NRSV. It only takes 72 hours to listen to the entire bible by audio. For me these are the best. Hope this helps. While it's great that there are audio versions available to stream online, I prefer having offline audio on my phone to use during running, road trips, hikes in the mountains, etc. My favorite recording ever was an old cassette tape set my parents had of the KJV (not my preferred translation but the readers were absolutely marvelous. Better than Scourby.) Sadly, I have no idea how to find it anymore, but decades later I still hear that reader's voice in my head when reading Galatians. I have a copy on my laptop harddrive and a copy on my phone, both listed as playlists to their respective mp3 players on each. For daily reading, I just open the bible text where I want to start (in Accordance, reading mode) and then I start the mp3 file in the separate mp3 player. I typically do daily bible reading on my phone since it's handing first thing in the AM and still on when I go to bed at night. Plus I have a nice bible reading tracker on my phone (android) that is really easy to update. I can't seem to find a decent one for Windows. Since I stay out in remote areas alot, it's a must to have local installations for, well, everything. For other texts (Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Articles, Papers, eBooks) I use Balbolka on my laptop and an ebook reader on my phone. Balbolka is great because it will go full screen (similar to Accordance's Reader Mode) and as it reads the cursor highlights each word.
