A complex Hebrew search - help

I'm trying to do a complex Hebrew search on accordance using the Hebrew Construct tool. I'd value any ideas anyone has as to how to perform it:

I want to search within the Hebrew OT (BHS) for a series of four Hebrew letters starting each word. Within the construct module I have been able to search for any set of four words with the four letters in a specific order, but I've not been able to set up the search so that it just searches for the four letters at the beginning of each word and there alone. At the moment I get positive results for two of the letters in the same word, or in four words, but not at the beginning of the word.

I would also like to do the same search for the end of a word, but I guess that would be easy to do once I work out how to do the search for the first letter.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This is a pretty tricky search, but it can be done without using the construct window. You need to use the character wildcard and parentheses to perform this search followed by the asterisk. I'm going to give a sample in English just to simplify things, but you can easily convert it to Hebrew. Let's say I want to find a series of three words that all begin with a vowel. Here's how I would set it up.

First, make sure your search is for words. The syntax would be like this:

?(aeiou)* ?(aeiou)* ?(aeiou)*

That string tells Accordance to find three words in a row that begin with one of the characters in the parentheses and are of any length of any characters after that character. The question mark is the character wildcard where you can specify a specific character. The parentheses let you specify what characters are acceptable at that place in the search string. Notice that you do not need to put commas between the vowels in the parentheses. I hope this helps.

Just to make sure you have a simple answer if that's all you're asking for:

A simple search in a search window for:

" *‏"א* ב* ג* ד

Will find the one hit in Ez. 47:16:

‏ אֲשֶׁר֙ בֵּין־גְּב֣וּל דַּמֶּ֔שֶׂק

The wildcard * symbol simply means any number letters can finish out the word.
