Should Moses be tagged as a subject here ?

Hi ya,

  We have this passage :

Πράξεις 7·40 εἰπόντες τῷ Ἀαρών· ποίησον ἡμῖν θεοὺς οἳ προπορεύσονται ἡμῶν· ὁ γὰρ Μωϋσῆς οὗτος, ὃς ἐξήγαγεν ἡμᾶς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, οὐκ οἴδαμεν τί ἐγένετο αὐτῷ.

Now in the syntax ὁ γὰρ Μωϋσῆς οὗτος is a dislocation which is fine, but I am wondering if Μωϋσῆς ought to be tagged as a subject in the syntax. It's currently only tagged as a casuspend and proper noun. In other rather similar cases the D phrase handles the dislocation and the subject is tagged as such.

Thx

D

Here the verb is οὐκ οἴδαμεν, whose Subject can only be an understood "we". This is why Μωϋσῆς can't be the Subject. As it is nominative, it will be a Nominativus pendens, that makes for most of left dislocations.

Yes that makes perfect sense. Thanx for clearing that up. Seems obvious now you point it out - oh well - live and learn

Incidentally, I re-read Wallace on this and see that I really mis-read him on this passage I believe. Ooops.

Many thx

D
