UBS Translator's Handbook for the Old Testament

Any chance the Old Testament volumes will be coming to Accordance? If not, I'm going to start buying the print volumes. If so, I'll give my money to the nice folks at Accordance when the time comes. :-)

Thanks

Any updates on this?  I have been wanting to buy UBS OT for years as an Accordance module!  Is this being worked on by the team?  Is it in the pipeline?

Thanks!

I seem to recall there is no electronic text available.

Here's a broad overview of the issue, without specifically referring to this particular series. Any time we consider a resource without an electronic text (That's not a PDF, folks), we are confronted with significant costs to OCR it (even if we can secure a license from the publisher). The more non-Roman languages (Hebrew, Greek, Syriac, Arabic, etc.) in the resource, the greater the cost and the more likely it will also need expert and expensive proofing. Sometimes we just can't justify the expense based on our projected sales.

That might be true but seems unlikely since the volumes or set is in Olivetree (the OT set only contains 21 of the OT volumes) have had them since the mid 2000s and they are also in FL (although I do know they do OCR things when they have to)... At any event they do contain useful information even for those not trying to translate, but simply trying to gain a better understanding. Although it is incomplete as I know the volumes for Numbers and Judges are still missing.

Just because another company has an electronic text available does not mean we can negotiate access to it.

No all I meant is I had assumed the 2 companies had received their text electronically... if not I am super impressed that OT release  41 volumes for under $100... I don't remember if it was 90 or 99 but I do remember it being very inexpensive.

I thought Dr Helen told me a couple years ago that they were working on getting this.   I'm really looking forward to UBS OT!!

Have you tried?

Remember, front line Bible translators have computers too, and being able to offer these resources in Accordance would be a real boon to them, in what is widely recognised as the best tool for original language texts.

I remember talking to someone with Wycliffe Bible Translators many years ago, and I was told that they had access to a special reduced-price version of some Bible software by special agreement, and that they weren't able to share with others, and neither would the software company provide it to anyone not a translator.

I would have thought it is a perfect missional opportunity that deserves serious pursuit, or at least think it as a marketing niche.

Any progress on this? I love the UBS handbooks for the New Testament and would really like to have the Old Testament handbooks too.

If this isn't going to be available in Accordance in the next couople of years, I'll have to buy the Olive Tree version. I hate having resources spread across different apps. :(

Thanks

With regard to Dr. J's comment above, the NT volumes this series have no Greek words—in fact, only four individual Greek letters occur throughout AFAIK.

So hesitation due to anticipating having to process tons of original language words could be unfounded.

Having said that, I haven't seen any OT volumes recently so cannot promise you there is no Hebrew text in them, but I would say its probably a pretty safe bet.

So if you do have to OCR these works, it should be in English only.

That's all.
