Mark Nigro
Haven't yet tracked down the pattern, but occasionally (more frequently since Windows 10 upgrade) Accordance will become unresponsive after quitting the application, whether by clicking the "Close" icon in the upper right corner or by utilizing the menu. It will not shut down and then gets registered as a crash upon restart. Mark Nigro
I'm going to bump this because it is a reoccurring problem. Accordance session wont quit from the "File" menu nor by using the "x" icon in the upper right of the window. Specifically, one of the two workspaces will quit, while the other will remain open (and functional) no matter what I do, unless I force quit from the task manager. Michel Gilbert
Hi Mark, I have a similar machine and I've had similar experiences, especially with W10 and Acc. I've got a late 2013 Inspiron 5721 with an i7 processor and 8 GB RAM. When I tried W10, I had to close Acc many times with the Task Manager before Acc became totally unresponsive. Did you happen to try what I did at http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/16479-crashing-in-windows-10/ ? It's going on two years having Acc for Windows, and I've had many, many crashes, I would say well over a hundred, but like you say, it is very hard to track down. But I don't think it’s the computer, which doesn't have any problems with any other programs. I'm writing this to let you and Acc know that you're not the only one who has experienced this, and that it does happen quite often. Since I reverted back to Win 8.1 it hasn't crashed as much, I'd say twice. Regards, Michel
Mark Nigro
Thanks for chiming in, Michel. This also used to happen on my Surface Pro both with Win 8.1 and Win 10. So I agree, it seems to be an issue with Accordance for Windows. Hopefully we can help them track down what is happening.
Michel Gilbert
For example, this just happened. My HD Monitor died today, so I'm using Acc on my 17" laptop screen. When I Checked for Updates I couldn't see the top of the menu, and I had to exit with the small popup screen on the Taskbar. So, I wanted to turn off scaling and clicked Edit > Preferences, and Acc crashed.
Λύχνις Δαν
I've seen such hangs and crashes on Win 7 with 11.0.x. I have in the past tried to get stack traces from threads when Acc becomes unresponsive before resorting to killing it from the Task Mangler. I use Process Explorer usually for that kind of thing. But it's not always successful. I've also looked in the System Event viewer for details - it also does not consistently have relevant data. Anyhow, to the reason I am commenting : if someone at Accordance dev. would like to suggest any diagnostics that might be collected for them in cases like this I would be happy to try to get that info. If it requires additional diagnostics tools be installed, setting debug flags or something I wouldn't necessarily mind doing it (so long as I'm not buying a full-on dev. environment of course ). I know from painful experience such things are hard to debug, and that being able to collect the right information at the time is half the battle. So being prepared ahead of time can help. Thx D
Mark Nigro
I wanted to follow up with this since the last update of 11.1.0. It seems that when Accordance is left running for more than a day and the machine is put to sleep and/or hibernation, it loses its ability to close properly. When this happens, clicking on the red "x" icon, selecting "quit" from the "File" menu, and right-clicking the Accordance icon in the taskbar to select "Close Window" fails to solicit a response from the app. Only a "force quit" will close out Accordance. This is the same behavior as reported in version 11.0.7. Edited November 18, 2015 by Mark Nigro
Mark Nigro
In Accordance 11.1.3.0, this problem still persists. I cannot define at what point Accordance will become unresponsive to the "quit" command, but the common denominator is that I keep Accordance running for two to several days, sleeping and waking the computer, after which it will no longer sync with Drop Box nor will it Quit without a "force-quit" exit. I've had this issue for a quite a long time on the Windows side with my most recent 2-in-one machines, Surface Pro 1 and Dell Insprion 13. I wonder if something with this 2-in-one structure is causing it or if it has to do with Windows 10. Is anyone else having this problem? Mike Garrity
Hi Mark, To help identify the culprit, you could try running Accordance for the next several days with automatic dropbox syncing turned off (just do manual syncing periodically). Orly Margolis
Mark, Could you please check if you have any error report files in your C:\ProgramData\Accordance\Logs folder? If you do, could you email them to me? We are trying to reproduce this, but cannot get the system to hang. There are a few things in the program that are communicating over an internet connection, among them are the dropbox sync and content update. Both of these can be set to manual or 'never'. If you do turn these off, I wonder if you will still hang after a few days.
Mark Nigro
Hi Orly and Mike, I will try both suggestions. Just to clarify, Accordance doesn't become unresponsive entirely. That is, I can still use it as I normally would. I just can't exit the program (I must force quit) and Drop Box sync won't run when I click the sync icon. I'll set it to manual and also look for the error reports, then get back to you. Thanks again!
Mark Nigro
So far, all I have done has been to switch Drop Box syncing to manual and Accordance for the last five days has not had any of the trouble mentioned in the OP.
Mark Nigro
Setting Drop Box to manual sync seems to have rectified the problem. Since doing so, Accordance has not had a single repeat of the problem described in the OP and I have not needed to force quit Accordance when closing. I'll look for those error reports and send them to you Orly. Thanks!
