Handwriting input panel doesn't work

I am using a Surface Pro 3 (which is a great Accordance machine, BTW) but I can't get the input from the handwriting panel to work.

 

I put my cursor in the goto box then write the reference which is recognized correctly. When I then tap the Insert button the recognized text disappears from the panel, as it should, but it isn't pasted into Accordance. This happens as well in User Notes.

 

Anyone else experience this?

 

Any way to fix this?
