Everything's 'checked' and updated but my hightlights/notes aren't sinking

I've gone through the form searching for a solution and a I've read the help files but still can't seem to resolve the problem…

I have a Macbook and an iPad linked via dropbox… this is my first problem. I read one article on accordance (or I think an old podcast) that said don't link to dropbox if you have a computer with Accordance (so I deleted the Accordance app from dropbox). Then I read just recently that I can use dropbox to since user notes and highlights between my two devices. So I did that and reinstalled the link/app. I also have automatic updates enabled and automatically resolve user note conflicts enabled.

So I went to test it this morning again… I highlighted some verses in Isaiah in the ESVS text and underlined a sentence in a Bible Handbook. I then clicked the sink with Dropbox button and went to check the Accordance app on my iPad… and nothing. i then closed it and still nothing. So then I clicked sync with dropbox on the iPad app (with Dropbox)… but nothing. I checked the same text and tool and nothing changed

So can someone please help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong? I know it should be easy but I just can't figure it out.

Oh, and one last glitch… I'm also getting an error message with now on my iPad after clicking on sync with Dropbox???

Thanks kindly…

David

PS- I'm running iOS7 and Accordance 10.3.1

Have you set the IOS device to display the correct highlight file?

Thanks, I checked and it was on highlights and not mobile highlights… which one should it be on. I thought that it should obviously be mobile highlights but it didn't work… so I switched back to highlights and synced the new notes I had just made on my computer just showed up?!

So it seems to be working… after all this I'm not sure what I changed. Is that correct then, I have sync with drop box enabled with resolve conflicts checked AND my highlights file in use on my iPad?

A question then, what is the use of the mobile highlights file on the iPad?

Thanks again for helping me get this working!

You can have any number of highlights files on either machine. Each file can contain a large number of different highlighting styles. But you can only show highlights from one set/file at a time.

For example, I have a set/file of highlights related to the Documentary Hypothesis (the theory that there are four main sources for the first five books of the Hebrew Bible) I have another set I use on a more regular basis, one related to source criticism in the New Testament, etc.

"Mobile Highlights" is the "starter" highlights file for iOS devices, just as "My Highlights" is for Mac/Windows versions.

So it's fine then if my iPad and Mac version are both using the highlights file? I'm still confused then as to the role/function of the mobile highlights? When would I ever select those?

Thanks!

Yes, your Mac and iPad can use the same highlights file. "Mobile Highlights" can be used on all devices as well. If I had to guess, "Mobile Highlights" was named that way so that users didn't accidentally overwrite their existing highlights on their Macs when syncing.

Mobile Highlights is the default highlight file name in the iOS app which is different than the default highlight file name in the desktop apps. Both the desktop and mobile apps support the installation of multiple highlight files although only one can be displayed at a time.

So just to confirm again, I'm right to have my iPad app on highlights?

If you are using a file called 'highlights' on the Mac and you want to see them on the iPad then you need to set the iPad to see 'highlights'. The changes you make on one device will then be displayed on the other when you sync with dropbox.

If you only have one highlights file then that will work fine. You do not need to use 'Mobile Highlights' at all.

There is the option to have more than one highlights file each having a different name. Then you would need to make sure you have the one you want to use selected on each device.

Hope that helps.
