  1. Product: Accordance Technologist Rick Mansfield Your rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Your review: Rick Mansfield is a real asset to the Accordance team. His activity on the forum has been invaluable to many users. His energy for support and service are constant; and his reasoned enthusiasm is inspiring. Rick's voice delights like a soft, sweet R&B tune, and his compassionate eyes exude "You're important; I care about your experience.", whether he does or not.

  2. I'd like to see an option to see "what's new to me" when I am upgrading to any product/collection. It was possible on the old website, with the new one the option has been lost. To sift through the lists manually is way too cumbersome.

  3. So, I talked with our primary academic rep about this. For the most part, students are generally made aware of special deals we have with their schools. Occasionally, someone makes a purchase without knowing they get a discount, and we offer a refund--but this doesn't happen often enough that it's a problem. And now that we have a new website built on WordPress, we're looking into having a price automatically adjust to a particular discount when a student logs in. [redacted]

  4. On the contra side, I love it that Accordance does "soft sell" and doesn't bombard you with constant sales pitches. I have an older version of Quicken that begs me to upgrade every time I boot it up. I have spent several thousand dollars over the years investing in quality resources. So, the approach that Accordance has used as worked well with me. If you are not getting the newsletter I recommend signing up for it. You will get information on the latest offerings on a regular basis. But please don't modify the app.

  5. It is no secret that I own other Bible software. Both it and Accordance has their strengths and weaknesses. But one thing I have noticed, and I really appreciate is the way people handle themselves on the forums here. There never seems to be any mean spirited dialogue nor any condescension. That cannot be said of the forums of the other Bible software. Thank you all for the grace that you show. I know it starts at the top, but it also extends to all who post here.

  6. After installing Monterey yesterday and using Accordance for a couple of hours, I'm pleased to say that I haven't found any issues. Of course that may change with updated builds of Monterey, but it's looking good so far.

  8. Having recently dealt with the estate of my wife’s mother and thinking about one’s own estate has made me wonder if one could name a beneficiary for my software licenses. Like many I have a rather large investment in physical books but over the years I have a rather significant investment in digital versions. In fact, I have several thousand dollars invested in Accordance collections and modules. It would seem to be poor stewardship to not prepare for someone to receive this should I die. Would it be possible to “pre-pay” the $25 transfer fee and then name a beneficiary to receive the licenses for my purchases?

  10. Here are some additional options: 1. Become an evangelist for Accordance. Share it online. Make videos and put them on YouTube and other social media. Participate in the Reddit discussions, Facebook discussions, etc. and help make people more aware of Accordance. I regularly refer folks to Accordance as a better option. When teaching, pull up your screen and show Accordance. Every time I do this someone says, "What's that software you were using?" Bringing Accordance 5 new users is far more helpful than giving them cash. 2. Buy stuff from them You could take that $100 and give it to Oaktree. But.. you could also buy gift cards for your friends and "gift" them an Accordance license. Or buy a new book or commentary set. 3. Help improve it by creating user content, submitting bug reports, etc. Why not move an old but valuable commentary into Accordance or share your user content on the Accordance Exchange. 4. Don't behave in a manner that would bring reproach on Christ or other Accordance users. Seriously though. Let's not be like some other forums. And I'm sure there are 20 more ways...

  11. I'd like to thank the Accordance team for their exceptional commitment to quality. The accuracy of the results we get from our searches is often taken for granted. Today I was reminded again of how much this is true of myself and how thankful I should be. Apps like Accordance are only as good as they are reliable. Minor mistakes in search results can undermine the confidence one has in a product and undermine scholarship. Half finished modules rushed to market to make a quick dollar are something I don't see from Accordance. I'm glad for that. When we acquire the results of a search we put a large degree of confidence in those results because we simply cannot see what was missed. I'm thankful that I'm not left wondering what was left out of my search results with Accordance. Thank you for your long standing commitment to accuracy and quality. It is probably an often overlooked "feature" and yet one that if doesn't exist compromises the entirely of the product.

  17. Just wanted to take a moment to thank all the staff at Accordance for their great customer service and an amazing product. It might be fair to say that my Bible and Accordance have kept me sane this year! I hope and pray you all have a well earned and blessed holiday... Thank you and God bless.

  18. Good questions, and I apologize for not explaining before release. As in all the patristic texts, the fallback for Greek tagging tends to be the Migne. The basic reason is simple, as you surmised: Migne is in the PD and readily available. But my reasons are more than that. In selecting Greek texts to tag, there are actually three things that need to converge: 1) I need access to a Greek text that is in the PD, and so, in patristics, that tends to be Migne; 2) There needs to be an English translation available to work from to display alongside the tagged Greek text that is also in the PD; and 3) both texts ideally need to be in digital format (and not just photographs or PDF, since that involves a LOT of transcribing before I can even begin). In the case you are mentioning, you have provided links to more recent critical editions that are in the PD. Those are useful, and could be used down the road for a revised edition that, in this case, has a more recent and critical PD version available. Regarding the authenticity of these as Hippolytus, for now I could note in the "about this text" the current critical assessment of these works. But I need to let the user sort out the different assessments from the Migne edition for now. I don't think anyone would say the Migne is the final word. It is certainly not the best text or series of texts, but for now that is what I had to work with given the parameters mentioned above. Hopefully this can be improved in the future.

  20. Could Accordance get access to the Loeb Classical Library? I would love to have these texts in Accordance. What an amazing resource it would be!
    8 points
  21. Of course. We're not saying that some users, especially those who have been with us the longest, don't matter. What I'm suggesting is that we are trying to give equal worth to all users, whether you've been with us a long time or a short time. The reality is that if we had stayed Mac-only, we probably wouldn't be here. The Windows emulator was not a good solution, and we found a better one by creating a Windows-native app. A very significant competitor is no longer around because they stayed Windows-only and opted not to create a mobile app, which is probably where the greatest potential for growth lies. We are still here and doing well because we "cast our bread on the surface of" many platforms. Although I can't give specifics, I am personally confident that the syncing issues will only get better. Know that we hear you, and we believe this is an important issue.

  22. No reason to delete. Sales is not fun at all but it drives the engine. Your major competitor doesn't offer much by way of academic packages, most of which were resources I had access too in base forms of Accordance. Accordance stands above with primary texts and functionality. the L is a glorified reader mainly. The profs use you because you offer what students in Seminary usually need, primary texts in original languages they can work with. You keep at that and you will be golden. I would suggest that you start cornering the market on Assyriology and you will instantly push into a much needed area. Tagged Akkadian, Ugaritic and other Semitic language texts would be a boost, especially with students familiar with SBL. I would suggest looking into that to boost the credentials. Obviously Accordance is geared towards biblical studies, but with many students in the broader field of Semitics, a software that works with their texts of choice would be a boon. I would suggest reaching out to the folks at Cuneiform Digital Library (https://cdli.ucla.edu) and see what sort of collaboration you can cook up if you are interested in that. Just my two cents

  24. While Accordance has the Samaritan Pentateuch in Hebrew, it would be nice to have an accompanying English translation. Here's one: The Israelite Samaritan Version of the Torah: First English Translation Compared with the Masoretic Version (There is a 'free' English version for eSword.)

  25. I am strongly against any form of subscription model. I cannot easily afford new monthly commitments. What may seem reasonable to those who can easily afford it may not seem so reasonable to people in my shoes. If you want to prayerfully send a monthly donation to Accordance, by all means do so. 32. I am not sure how helpful my thoughts are as I never owned Logos, but I can say that when BibleWorks died I decided to go with Accordance instead of Logos because of how the companies interacted with me. My personal experience with Logos was that it was a very "business focused" organization and the top priority was making sales, while the vibe I got from Accordance is that they were genuinely concerned about people understanding Scripture better. Perhaps that is not important for some people, but it was the sole reason why I went with Accordance. After using Accordance for awhile I am very happy with my decision. The software has been a night and day change in how I am able to study. I also like the free seminars which Accordance presents, and the sales and tech support staff is always really helpful. If I had to make the choice over again I would still go with Accordance.

  35. I may be missing it, but with the old website it was very easy to compare (side-by-side) different collections, I can't seem to find any clear way to do that? Secondly, there was a way previously for me to see what extra modules I would get if I upgraded to the next level, (filtering out the ones I own). Is there still a way to do that? Paul.

  39. Welcome to the new Accordance User Forums! You will definitely notice a new and more streamlined look and feel, and there are lots of improvements not immediately noticeable on the surface in the way these forums work. The biggest immediate change for regular Forum users is going to relate to how you log in. Here are a few things to keep in mind. Ever since the beginning of the Accordance Forums 16 years ago, logins were totally separate from your purchase account. You could use the same login and password if you wanted, but if you changed the password on one account, it wouldn’t affect the other account. Now we have moved to using one login and password for both the Forums and your Accordance purchases. That means you must login to the forums using your accordancebible.com purchase account email address or user name. Old Forum user name logins won’t work. If, for some reason, you had an Accordance Forums account but had never purchased Accordance or had a separate account at accordancebible.com, you should still be able to log in. However, you will need to reset your password to do this. To do this, select “Lost your password?” and enter your old Forums display name or email address. This will allow you to set a new password that will be used for both the Forums and the rest of the accordancebible.com website. The Accordance User Forums have gone through a major upgrade! You’ll notice all the improvements right off. However, know that we may still be tweaking a few settings and even the look of the interface. If something is not working right or the way you think it ought to, please make a post in the Forum Comments, Suggestions & Help section or send me a direct message. We hope everyone likes the new and improved Forums. The combined logins should be much better than having to keep up with two separate accounts. If you're new here, please read the Forum Guidelines. And if you’ve never made use of the Accordance User Forums, we would invite you to come on in and join the conversation! Also, if you end up with two accounts, send me a direct message, and I'll merge your accounts together.

  42. Just received this response from the publisher: "In terms of your request, can I suggest that you get back in touch with us in a few months' time? We are in the process of carrying out an audit of all our Gaelic resources to help us think through what we may do next with this translation. In addition, we have a new Director of Development and Commuinications starting with us shortly, who will be responsible for any licensing discussions." We'll stay in contact with the publisher and hope to release a Gaelic translation as soon as possible!

  45. Although we normally don't announce details before a product is released, I don't see that it will hurt to give you info about this. Know that any of this is subject to change before release. The 2020 NASB will initially be released by itself with Hebrew and Greek Strong's dictionaries. We are negotiating to add it to our NAS group, but that may not be in place at release. The Lockman Foundation will continue to let us sell the 1977 and 1995 editions. Currently, there is not special upgrade pricing, but we are asking permission of Lockman again to offer this. But they have said this is considered a separate translation and not a mere update. This will be part of our Dec 1 sale. The introductory discount will be greater that the 25% coupon currently available. I should also point out that while a competitor has advertised the NASB as a pre-pub, the pricing they are advertising makes me assume that it is without Strong's numbering and Hebrew/Greek dictionaries because they are offering it at a lower cost than the base royalty, and I doubt they are going to be selling it at a loss. We are not currently planning to offer a text without Strong's numbering because when given the choice, I can't imagine that most people would want this.

  46. In order for the syntax to work, it needs to be aligned with the tagged text of GNT28. The grammatical tags for GNT-28 have just been changed, to accommodate for a new way of representing the phenomenon of krasis. As a consequence, the syntax module needed to be aligned again.

  48. I'm in the beta test and the "Export to Brain" feature is really cool. It's also got a kind of synchronous feature called Instant Install. I just bought a new Mac and once I unboxed it and logged into my Apple Account, I rebooted and just wished Accordance was installed and it was. It loads from your brain to the computer. All you have to do is hit the finger ID or use a Windows computer with Facial recognition. It's great, but has a few bugs. All your books are in Swahili right now.
