  1. Great news! The Berean Study Bible (text and notes) is now available--for FREE--for Accordance!

  2. Now that Accordance has the ANF and NPNF 1 and 2 up and running, it would be nice to include the PL and PG series for quick reference to the original languages. Anything in the works?

  3. The NRSV wasn’t singled out. We added the optional headers feature for any text with subheadings/pericope titles supplied by publishers that were already in the translator notes file for that text. These headings have been a long-requested feature by users, of which we have a very wide variety. We are clearly the last of any Bible software platform to add the ability to see headings, and with most of our competitors, they cannot be turned off unlike ours. Determining which is the majority—those that want them vs. those that don’t—is difficult to gauge. Having them turned on by default was a good way to signal users that these features are now available since few people read the release notes. Your point about the impact of default options is valid, and I’m sure our developers can weigh that for future releases. Fortunately, for those who don’t want the headers, they can be turned off.

  4. I'd like to see an option to see "what's new to me" when I am upgrading to any product/collection. It was possible on the old website, with the new one the option has been lost. To sift through the lists manually is way too cumbersome.

  6. I agree at the core, that Section Headers, and heck, even verse and chapter divisions, dilute and taint the scripture reading, for my typically church folk in particular. But, I'm less concerned with it as a default in Accordance, because the Accordance user is not the same as my church members of whom I speak. They on the whole are more sophisticated in understanding what the text is and isn't. The bigger problem for the software developer, however, is choosing defaults. When they release a new feature, they pretty much have to make it a default, otherwise ongoing users will never discover it is there. At the least, I recognized it's a difficult issue.

  7. Rick has responded to this issue in another thread (pasted below), but let me add that we try to stay true to the publisher's layout and content preferences when at all possible. That's why other elements involving some level of subjectivity (such as poetry formatting and red lettering for Jesus' words) are displayed as the default.

  11. If it is still available. How long? https://www.heise.de/news/Apple-entfernt-Bibel-und-Koran-Apps-aus-chinesischem-App-Store-6220092.html I guess it would be great if the Android version is downloadable from Accordance direct again.

  13. @R. Mansfield maybe the developers could consider adding an option about this in the install/new setup dialogue?

  14. We’re working on it.

  15. I share the original poster’s preference to not see the headings, and I’m grateful that Accordance has kept the headings optional for those of us w this stance.

  17. It’s a reference to Acts 17:11. The publishers are suggesting this Bible will facilitate studying the Scriptures as the Bereans did. It does somewhat create a false expectation, though.

  19. Dear Accordance, I have a request. I understand that this request represents my personal opinion and might not be shared by all. Here it is: I prefer bug fixes instead of features for the next iOS release. In fact, I would trade all features for a whole year just to fix primarily two bugs: 1) First, the copying bug where when copying text to Microsoft word, it does not follow the font of the existing text in word (as all other apps do and suppose to do). But it copies what is in accordance. Yes, there is a workaround. But it is a tedious one. 2) Second, the switching bug where when you switch to word, then return to accordance, both panes jump back couple of verses and several paragraphs respectively. If you use accordance in ipad on daily basis to copy text from accordance to word, switching so many times, you may understand how fixing these two bugs can be the greatest gift. And if other wonderful features were offered without fixing these two bugs, I am sure these features will be greatly celebrated in such condition for such user Now I fully understand that for others, this will not be applicable to them. And as thus, this represents my opinion, my experience, and my request.

  20. Hello Kristin If you want to have it as parallel to a Bible it has to have a biblical verse mapping. Like the Computer Bible: Gen 1:1 In the beginning there was the Word, and Word had two Bytes and there was nothing else. Gen 1:2 And God divided the ones from the zeros and saw that it was good. Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be data: and there were data. Gen 1:4 And God said, Let data be gathered together into each own place and he created floppies, hard drives and CD- ROMs. Gen 1:5 And God said, Let there be computers so there was a place to put hard drives, floppies and CD-ROMs. And God created computers and called them "hardware" and divided "hardware" from "software." Gen 1:6 But there were no software yet so Lord God corrected himself and created programs big and small and blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill all memory. Gen 1:7 And God got tired from writing programs and said, Let us make programmer in our image, after our likeness: and let him to have dominion over computers and programs and data. So God created a programmer and put him into his Computing Facility to live and work there. And LORD God brought programmer to the Directory Tree and commanded him, saying, From every directory thou mayest run programs. But from the WINDOWS directory thou shalt not run programs at all: for MUST DIE. Gen 1:8 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the programmer should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him. And the LORD God took one of programmer's bones which had no brains and created a CUSTOMER; and brought him unto programmer: and programmer called customer a USER. And they were both sitting under pure DOS, and were not ashamed. Gen 1:9 Now the Bill was more subtle than any beast of the field. And he said unto the user, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not run programs from every directory? And the user said, We may run programs from every directory, but of the WINDOWS directory, God hath said, Ye shall not run programs from it, for MUST DIE. And Bill said to user, Let us argue a taste of oyster with those who ate them! In the day ye run WINDOWS, then ye shall be as gods, for with one click of mouse ye create whatever you want. And when the user saw that WINDOWS was pleasant to the eyes, and a program to be desired for it makes any knowledge unnecessary, and installed it on his computer; and said also unto programmer that it was cool; and programmer installed it too. Gen 1:10 And programmer went to look for new drivers, and he heard the voice of the LORD God, asking, Where art thou? And programmer said, Looking for new drivers, for there are no drivers under pure DOS. And the LORD God said, who told thee that thou needth drivers? Hast thou run programs from WINDOWS directory? And programmer said, The user whom thou gavest to be with me, he told me that from now on he wants programs only from WINDOWS directory; and I installed them. And the LORD God said unto the user, What is this that thou hast done? And the user said, The Bill beguiled me, and I did run WINDOWS. Gen 1:11 And the LORD God said unto the Bill, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; and I will put enmity between thee and the programmer; for he will curse you and thou will sell WINDOWS to him. Gen 1:12 Unto the user he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and barren thy wallet; and thou will use buggy programs; and thou will not survive without the programmer, and he shall rule over thee. Gen 1:13 And unto programmer he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of the user, cursed are computers for thy sake; bugs and viruses will they bring to thou; in sorrow shalt thou fight them all the days of thy life; in the sweat of thy face shalt thou debug thy code. Gen 1:14 Therefore the LORD God sent them forth from his Computer Facility; and he set password on entry. Gen 1:15 General protection fault. Non Biblical text works the same. For example you want to add a Quran, you have normally to choose the verse mapping of the Quran. Except you want some Quran text in parallel with the Bible like the story of Abra(h)am from the Bible with Ibrahim from the Quran, then you have to put one with the verse mapping from the other. 21. If you search grasshoppers in accordance, the first reference is Leviticus 11:22 which means November 11 is when they are going to start the sneak peaks and the 22nd is when they are going to release v14

  24. There is a kind of way to do this, if I've understood you correctly. Create a tab like you want : GNT with ESV in parallel. Go to File -> Save Active Tab .... Give it some name and save it - say GNT ESV Tab Now, you can do File -> Open and select that saved tab and it will be opened as a new tab in your current workspace. There is a shortcut for File -> Open - Cmd-O. but you'll have to find the file. Thankfully the chooser will present recents at the top. Thx D

  29. Would it be possible to update the navigation for Atlas? The scroll up/down, left/right, click buttons to zoom in/out, etc. is seems unnecessarily cumbersome in this age of Google Maps and other similar apps. It would be nice if it were something more intuitive, like tying zoom in/out to the scroll wheel function, and allowing a click-and-hold dragging method to move around the map. Thanks!
    2 points
  30. Be sure to familiarize yourself with all the current ways to navigate the Atlas, which you can find in Accordance Help by searching for "Move Around the Atlas". Some that you may find helpful include: Hold down the command key (on Mac) or ctrl key (on Windows), then you can click and drag the map around. On a trackpad, you can pinch in and out to zoom. Hold command-shift (Mac) or ctrl-shift (Windows) and the cursor turns into a magnifying glass. Click on a point to zoom in with that point at the center of the map. Drag a box around an area of the map to zoom in on, then double-click anywhere inside that box. Hope this helps.

  31. I would like to request that you add the Inclusive Bible to Accordance. Here is the relevant information: - Title: Inclusive Bible - Author: Priests for Equality - Publisher: Sheed & Ward; unknown edition (March 16, 2009) I believe this would add value for those of us who strive to find ways to make encounters with the Bible and God accessible to and inclusive of all people. Thank you for your consideration.

  34. You can hold CNTRL (CMD for Mac) as you hover over words to see your favorite lexicon in the instant details. The gloss for this word is correct in the sense that it reflects what was supplied by the ETCBC and German Bible Society (see also https://shebanq.ancient-data.org/hebrew/text). They are saying that morphologically or etymologically the word is a noun, but it is not necessarily functioning or behaving that way in the sentence. The ETCBC Syntax module labels it as a Time Reference. Contrast this with Westminster morphology (HMT-W4) and Holmstedt syntax which tag the word as an adverb and adjunct, respectively. This is what you are noticing in your lexicons. *Actually, both HALOT and DCH describe it as a conjunction in some cases and a preposition in others. BDB calls it an adv. of time.

  35. I'm not a fan of the inline Headings, but I don't have a problem ignoring them. But I loathe that the new feature added "Headings" as a search field, so ⌘; is now rendered painful to use. My muscle memory is YEARS old using ⌘; to toggle between Verses and Words, and I do it constantly, and now Headings won't go away as an option even though I have Headings hidden in the preferences, which makes no sense. The "Flex" option used to not show up if you didn't do Flex searches (which I never do), but now field options for Text windows are as sophisticated as Tools are. I'm trying to teach myself to do ⌘⌃w and ⌘⌃v but old dog here. #firstworldproblems

  36. This is the nice thing about Accordance. You have the option to have them on or off. A while back there was a topic asking for the headings, so there is a group that wants them and a group that does not, just like with other features and preferences. Let's just be thankful that Accordance gives us the ability to customize our settings so that we can have the program looking and functioning the way we want it to. 🙂

  39. I tried a construct version of this. It has basically similar issues for the most part, but if you create two constructs and <OR> them together it seems to work if it runs without crashing. I had it crash a couple of times alas. So not a real w/a and in any case not as convenient as the search box for this kind of query thx D

  40. If you could make the resources that you have open go to a second line, or even a third line, instead of having the < and > button on the left and right, that would be amazing. Or even to have the option for them to go to other lines would be nice, to switch between multiple lines and the < > buttons on the ends. Or if you could let scrolling with your mouse navigate through them if you hover over it with your mouse, that could work too. Also, I wish the scrolling on a mouse would work whenever you try to look through the books of the Bible when you have a Bible text open, instead of having to press on the up and down buttons.

  45. While it's nice you're bringing out tagged German Bibles, it's a shame these aren't the most up-to-date translations. Are you planning to produce Elberfelder 2006, Luther 1984/2017 or Schlachter 2000 in tagged format?
